I was thinking about a stabilizer but I don't race. Would it be a waste of cash? What street benifits would I see if any? Thanks

Get the Ohlins. The ride is so much better with it. I put one on mine this winter as part of my winter mods and I love ridin it more then ever now.

yes it will help! It dosent have to be for a race application, anytime you want more stability in the front end. It happens more when you give it enough gas to get the front end barely off the ground.

I have the Ohlins/Muzzy setup on my 14. Personally I find the damper to be a little weak for my preferences when it comes to Land Speed Racing.
I have a Scott's on my 12R, and I drilled the frame. I don't really like drilling into the steering head casting, but again, my personal preference. The damper itself is top notch.
I have never tried the GPR. I had heard that a lot of them leaked, but that seems to have gotten better. Even though they look similar, my understanding is that the damping circuits are very different between the Scott's and GPR.
Street or track you will see an improvement in stability when you use a good damper.

Definetly, this is the first stabilizer I ever had on a bike. It makes me wonder why I never had one sooner. If you ride primarily on the street like I do, then you will see a big improvement on handling. It really comes in handy with those unexpected pot holes. I'm sure we can all relate with that.

Yes GPR leaked after a short while on my old bike, i switched to Scott's (made by Ohlins), so far no probs. I got mine from www.parts411.com the guy Charlie hooked it up with a deal, cheapest price i found anywhere.

Can anybody elaborate on this? I don't have one or see the need yet..all street here. I had one on an old KZ and it felt like it slowed the steering down is all. I didn't like it and kept it on a light setting. I'm sure technology has improved like everything else.

The Scotts/Ohlins rotary damper is the best. No comparison to any of the others.
And it's less money!

You may not have a need for one. I think that generally, the more aggressive the riding style, the more it is preferred. Wheelies, high speeds over bumps, aggressive backroad riding...all will see benefit from a damper.
For me, landing wheelies and tank slapping, and speeds over 190 mph with a bumpy track and/or sidewind....well, it demands a damper. Even if landing wheelies while cresting hills on a backroad...I want a damper.
Steering geometries are much more aggressive now than back in the KZ days. Another person put it this way: "You don't need a damper until you need it...and then you REALLY need it!".

I ran the ever trusty Ohlins on my track bike, but only after racing it for a season -- had one situation with instability when I set it down from a one-wheeled hillcrest as I had to brake hard after to keep it in the turn at the bottom or ditch it in the sand........shook me pretty hard too -- Ran right out and got one that same week, and never had a repeat afterwards. I haven't put one on the 14 and tend to ride it fairly aggresively, but don't do track days much anymore and haven't gotten one ounce of headshake out of her yet.......so I may never install one. Definitely a good decision if you're questioning whether or not to get one -- like dcjens said, you never knew you needed one until you realized you need it NOW!

Something to think about, the guys who are thinking of these gotta make sure those ohlins ones clears handle bat risers if they deciding to get one.
