Sounds like a load of fun to me ^^^^^^^

Was a load of fun,
but you could not carry the straight line pace of a zx14 due to the light front end, giving your warning wags, frt wheel popping off the ground at speeds exceeding 150 MPH over bumps. When the wheels aren't aligned at touchdown from wheelies due to crosswinds, and your travelling at that speed, as much as it was fun, it was STUPID... LOL
and in strong crosswinds, I had it leaned way over to keep it straight wheras the 14 is freight train solid.

Here are the two batteries that I've tried for weight savings-
the 1.7 lbs. Speedcell and the Odyssey 310 that's about half the size of the zx14 oem unit

Will call for additional tech support.

Can the Speedcell be installed on it's side?
I think that with some good quality Velcro and the battery laid on it's side
would be the best way to position it.

Thanks for PM reply. Looking good. The A-head seems like such a simple exhaust choice just based on reputation alone but i really think it looks best on a 14 too. Black ceramic would be the way I'd go on mine.

The speedcell can be mounted any way you desire, as long as its hooked up right.

I'm considering an Area P carbon fiber muffler somewhat similar to the one on Shane's bike- I just want one with a slash cut like the ones in the preproduction pics. It will be slightly lighter and will look different.

I would consider a Gen 3 system first if riding with a passenger is frequent though- the Alien Head tends to scream at the person in the back a little too much and also the tip of the muffler is very close to the rear foot peg.

A couple of guys asked in emails, so I'll try to clarify here as well.

I had difficult time deciding on swapping to the rear Tokico caliper.
Just the concept of having different brand brake calipers on the front and rear wheels made me uneasy. Then I noticed that the zx6r had NIssin fronts and a Tokico rear- nothing unusual, other bikes also had that set-up from the factory.

Dubious looked into the details with his gsxr wheel swap. The Tokico is a single cylinder brake caliper and the stock zx14 Nissin has two. Up to 06 the gsxr1000 has the same rear caliper as the zx14- different caliper hangers off course.
The 07 to current gsxr1000 switched to Tokico calipers (same with Gen2 Busa) and that's the one I have on my bike- less bite but quicker release of the brake pads and allowing me to use a 30 mm smaller in diameter brake rotor.
Shane has some weight measurements in his build thread on the two rear calipers.
It's the rear brake- too much bite won't lead to anything good IMHO
I could swap to the 240 mm Galfer Gen2 Busa brake rotor and get more bite if I needed it
but I have Vesrah pads that give me plenty as of now.

Brand new form a seller that parts brand new bikes out on eBay... for $45 shipped

And after some modifying to make it work with the stock zx14 swingarm- had to cut almost half of the Tokico hanger to bring it forward and lower and to make it mate well with the brake tab of the arm. Spiegler made me a custom lenght brake line- had to send it back to get the exact needed lenght

The 220mm Galfer brake rotor is roughly 1/3 of the weight of the oem 250mm zx14 unit.
It's a good mod for unsprung weight savings and has little to do with brake improvement.
That's not the case with the front rotors though- the Galfers are heavier than the oem zx14 rotors and that's why I'll stick with them for now.
I could buy lighter rotors for the front but the amount of $$$ could be put to better use IMHO.

I hope this helps.

Here's one exhaust that I wouldn't mind having on my bike instead of the Alien Head:

Something very similar to the shorter muffler in the pic will be replacing my current Alien Head sometime soon

Stan, have you talked to Kerry?
I have, the slash cut is limited to inside core diameter.
Still considering it for the Vmax, but might get 2.
The UFO exhaust is wayy loud, and sounds like a combination between cammed big block chev , and a harley..

The small brake rotor can also be used with the 05-06 GSXR , or zx14 caliper, but the other hanger is needed.
Then you will have dual opposed pistons

I'll have to inquire with him about it- still haven't at this point.
I've only seen the pics around and really like them.

I have a few other things in mind for the 14 as well but don't want to cut into my K8 750 budget too much... you know I've craved one for track day duties for some time.

BTW Did you have a chance to ride the new Vmax? Looks great in person- haven's been on one yet but I'm itching to try one.

No , no new ones.
I sat on a new one and its a behemoth.... not much interested.
I like my cheap old one for $5000 can't go wrong as a familly bike... its perfrect for 2up riding.
I have no desire to spend $20 K on a new one.

The foot pegs are Oberon- their race cut version.
They are not cheap but are the best out there IMHO.
It probably takes 10 min to replace them... if that... and no negatives at all.
The stockers are ugly, heavy and belong on a Harley.

The heel guards are Bestem cf

On the Pilot Powers topic... here's my previous front on the zx6/ zx10 rim- same opposite facing threads... the 2CTs are just awesome for the street.
The zx10 front wheel is a great and cheap way to sharpen the steering on the 14,
just has to be the 08-09 and not a previous year...

Here are my rears- I'm a huge fan of the 190/ 55... sorry for the bad pic quality....
The BST and gsxr1000 wheels:

What do you like about the 55 profile over the stock 50 relative to handling response?

The bike steers quicker and has a larger contact patch while leaned.
The profile allows to initiate a lean faster due to the raised middle and steeper side walls.
You also benefit from an increased lean angle- something that the zx14 also lacks in.

This is the only profile I'll use on the 14 in my attempts to cure most of it's quick steering flaws.

The tire is the same width (190)- mounting on the rim is no different at all.
No issues with clearance either- with the rear axle all the way forward on the adjusters,
I have about 1/2" b/n the rubber and the base of the swingarm.

This is how the tire should look after some serious leaning:

BTW that rear is on almost the exact same copy of my previos bike- the red 05 zx10.
I was dumb enough to get rid of it... one of my riding buddies kept his

A few old pics here- Sept 08... with my X-11 on the zx10 mirror

Nice lookin tire.... if ya did that on the 14, sparks would be flying off the case covers, ....once you ground through the plastics...
