Stripped
Ok, this is my first posting.
Love the bike.
I tried to remove the flies by following instructions that I could find. I heated the screws with a soldering iron and then appied pressure while carefully turning the screwdriver. Got them all out but one. I managed to strip the head.
What's the best way to remove a damaged screw? I'm afraid to drill since small metal bits could get into the intake. Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the club....one of mine stripped out as well. I drilled it out. After drilling I used Shop Vac to pick up the shavings before and after lifting out the fly plate (that was in the closed position during drilling). I also passed a magnet around to collect anything the vac may have missed. All that was a few 1000 miles ago so I guess I'm OK.
Good luck!

I pulled my throttle bodies to get the offending screw out. Off and back on the bike within an hour (bodywork was already off). I cut a notch in the screw head with a dremel.

I stripped one on my 08 Connie - used a shop vac and magnet after drilling it - then sold the bike for an 09.

You know you could try a 'looong' pair of needle nose pliers that have the 'L' at the end. If it works, no metal shavings in that valunable throat. Worked for me.

I wonder if the needle nose vice grips could get on the screw head.

Grease globbed on the drill bit will capture any shavings created. Go slow, it's only brass.

I actually never had a problem and followed an old plumbing trick I learned. I ever so slightly tightened each screw so that broke the threadlock, then they backed them right out. Later I found out why so many guys strip out phillips screws on japanese bikes. It's because the japanese have a different version of the phillips head screw and use a different screwdriver tip that fits better than the American version. Had the same thing happen on the last Fucking screw what I did was heated the shit out of the screwdriver and put it on the screw and LIGHTLY tapped it with a hammer did this a few times till I could feel like it was getting a bite of the screw ( the screws are soft so they will form a little to the screwdriver head) finally applied a little extra pressure to the screw and out that SOB came.

just make sure you don't apply so much pressure, or hit the screwdriver too hard, or you will bend the secondary throttle plate shaft causing it to bind when the motor actuates.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I combined Shogun's and Shane's suggestions.
Flies are now out. I pulled the throttle bodies and drilled the screws. I would have used my Dremel tool to cut slots in the screw heads but didn't have the right bit, and didn't want to wait 'till tomorrow to buy one.
One big plus about pulling the throttle bodies is it allows you to line up the screwdriver square to the screws thus reducing the chance of stripping in the first place. I might choose to do that from the start if I were to do it again.

I used a set of the long 90deg needle nose pliers on both my ZX14 and C14 to remove the flies. What I did was cut/grind off the front half of the plier jaws so the beefy part was left. You get no flex that way. They gripped the sides of the screw just fine, and you have the leverage to back the screw out about 1/4 turn at a time.

i just gave a light tap to the back of the screwdriver to set the bit, tightened a little, then backed them out. No problems even without using heat, but I'm guessing that I got lucky lol.
