14 front brake problem
hey all..
anyone having front brake problems with their 14??
My situations is crazy pulsating like the rotors are warped, but checked them and there not. Not sure if its a sticking caliper or sliders... Just throwing it out there in case its an ongoing issue... Bike is a 06 with 5000 miles onj it...

Fucking ZX14's always have the same damn issue with the warping rotors. My 06 and now my 08...it takes the most minute warping to make them pulsate like that, you might not see it with the naked eye...but that's exactly what it is.

I have approx 7,300miles hard miles on an '08.. I also run 100% if not 99.99999999999% front brake bias. 130mph average exit ramp speed when no one is looking like just now is I had so many eyes but a clear shot for the ramp and when I nailed the brakes, that front wheel chattered. I released/reapplied and the chatter or what feels like a brake disc rotor warp is check for a front worn tire; since your disc run-out is under .004" max warp or toss them.
How come my front discs are not warped and I am just as hard on the brakes [as you all] if not all that power directed on the front 2 discs. Wanna see my rr brake pads and disc's on two rear wheels? I have two sets of wheels with the rears showing rub lines and not disc pad puckissing.

I am sure your front end cannot take the initial harmonic and the only way to squash it is to back off the brake and re-apply the brakes again. Since you scrubbed off a lot of speed on the chatter, you now double pump and she clears from the forking bounce action.
Say you run the forks tight. Now the bike is all over that place and you had the sag going perfect. That is my cure if we are on the same page = Release then re-brake. Works for me. Now it's your being I have the brake banner out is your skill factor on the test. You fall off = You did it wrong is do not blame me you are in a cast.

I recently had to replace mine @ 18K with some EBC Pro lite brake rotors and pads. All is well again. I hate to tell you this but they only get worse(lever pulse).

It is a warped rotor issue. All my Kwaks have had this before. They just have shitty rotors - bottom line. No matter how you break them in, they always warp. Crap. My Busa's and Yami's never had this, but then the the Busa's have crappy brakes to begin with.

It cant be that common as I have not heard many people having this problem. One thing that some people do and I dont know if this it the problem but after heavy braking(exitiing an off-ramp), some people contiue to squeeze the brake at the stop, keeping the heat in that one area. The problem seems to reoccure to certain people??
Mabey I am lucky so far?

If the lever is pulsating then they are warped. If it's the braking force varying then the discs might be blued, hotspots from heavy braking which have a different coefficient of friction. My bikes discs are a bit blued, caused by repeated stops from around 200 at top speed meetings. If you buy new rotors use new pads too and bed them in properly.

If you really want to fix your brakes, get ahold of PFM ie' West performance.
They make some of the best brakes anywhere. Cast iron, lightweight full floating discs and calipers that have almost imperceptible drag.

My old Ducati's had cast iron discs. They worked ok but they aren't exactly great to look at, anytime I rode in the rain I had to clean the orange rust off afterwards with a brass brush. I dare not put bike away wet or the pads would end up stuck to the discs.

If they are indeed dragging excessively (some minimal pad to rotor contact is normal) you may have a caliper piston (puck) that is stuck. This can happen when you just change out pads and don't bother cleaning the pucks.

polish the pucks, where they ride in the cyinders, must dissasemble the caliper to fix...

If you're going to the trouble of disassembling the calipers to clean the pistons you should buy and fit new seals too.

if you use spray cleaner on the bike some times it will get on the rotor try cleaning the rotor

my 2010 has warped front disc rotors, taking it back to dealer, hopefully its covered under warranty

Wow bringing a post from the dead and your first post. Its going to be hard to get the dealer to replace the rotors under warranty. Brakes, lights, and tires are a few things that the warranty specifically says are not covered. Good luck though, maybe they will feel sorry for you.

I switched to ebchh pads after a few thousand miles, I'm at 20k+ with lots of doubled up excessive speeds hard braking with no rotor issues. I wonder if the stock pads are more likely to warp rotors??

Lets hope so, waiting on a call from them today, i reckon it should be covered under your warranty as it is a common problem with kwakas and disc rotors
