Looking at zx-14, got some ?'ssss.
Well I have been riding a 2007 fz6 new for 2 yrs now. I got about 3.5K in miles, and before I took to the streets I took the MSF advanced course. Very good.
So Im looking for a bike that fits me better, and is more subtancile. I fill up the fz6 rather nice as Im 6-2 and 275lbs,,, no gear. Its a great bike, But Im looking for something that has better all round "parts" and I really like the looks of the zx-14. Love the lights and I guess the mirrors are the best in the business.
I went and sat on a zx-14 over the weekend, and it fit really good, Nice riding postion. Only thing is my knees were hitting right on the crest of the tank. The guy was like ya yours knees are a little high,, which is funny , Im only a 32" inseam, More torso I guess.
So what kind of rear sets are avaliable for the zx-14? I need them to go down maybe and inch and back a little. I think a good set will be around $400. And thats about all I need.
I was really looking at a Buell 1125r,, but I really feel like Im ontop of that bike, and my gawd, the rear brake pedal was only out about 1 inch from the clutch case,, I only had my big toe on the thing. But I know they are adjustable,, maybe the guy put them all the way in. I have also read in many forums of all the issues the 2008 and 2009 1125r's have,, thats not too good of an idea for me. sooooooo
I have a line on a left over 2008 zx-14 for $9100. No set up fees or extras. Its the dark blue. And they are giving me $4k for my bike.
This is really close to where I want to be,, but more like $3-$4k cash out plus my bike. This is at $5k cash out and my bike.
But I have to say,, when I seen the Green zx-14 on the floor,, I couldnt stop looking at it. I hate green or yellow on cars,, but this green was so shocking I have been thinking of it all day! That and the added attention from cagers is a nice plus Im sure!
So all in all, I like the zx-14,,, I even sat on a Busa , and that was also very nice. Seemed like I was looking at a bimmer cockpit and gauges!!!!!!!!!! And I didnt see a need for rear sets on this thing.. But its also about $2k over the zx-14.
Also what are the changes from 06-07 And the 08-09... I think the change was made in 2008. And the 2008 and 2009 are the same bikes? Zx-14 that is.
One more thing,,, when do the 2010 bikes come out to the showrooms? This might help my bargaining workout.
Thanks all

you can get the rearsets about 1" lower, but most exhaust systems, including the stock, will interfere with the heel of your foot if you try to move them back and down.
The 08-09 incarnation has much better low end throttle response.
Most bikes have been bullet proof, especially the newer ones.
Its a great bike, with alot of potential for even more power with a pipe down the road if you so choose.
They don't handle like a 600 for sure, but about as good as any bike can be ridden on the street anyway.
They do have likely the best brakes in the business, and are super stable even beyond the speed limiter.

Im a big guy also and the 14 is, in my opinion, the most comfortable all round motorcycle money can buy for a big dude. Now the suspension stock is a little soft so it may require new springs and valving if you want to push it in the twisties. I ride all day 300 to 500 miles and still feel like i have more left in me. On my ZX-12r i would have to stop several times to restore feeling to my legs and butt. lol. The guys at traction dynamics setup my suspension and now the bike is very confidence inspiring. Dubious is correct it doesnt corner like a 600 or 1000 sportbike and you can not keep the same corner speeds but well ridden on a back road you can still keep a respectable pace. Tires are the only issue as I do tend to eat those up rather quickly. I think the 14 would be an excellent choice though.

Silver Evo,
I'm 6'6" and weigh in at 215 lbs. The 14 has more leg room than a busa and a shorter reach to the bars IMO. I have a 36" inseam. The bike is very comfortable.
I have Sato rearsets on my bike which can be adjusted to some 8 to 9 different positions. I currently have them located in a position fairly close to stock. P

Thanks big guys!!!!!
Im more of a nice easy rider type,,, enjoy the ride. So about the adjustable suspension,,I know the forks are rather tricky,, and most people dont mess with them,, or have somone that really knows what they are doing mess with it.
The rear, is it a dial,, and how many settings are there?
Also what is it set at stock,, does it go by rider weight, or performance settings?
I did have to go with race tech springs in my fz for the forks... Way too mushy,,, Im sure the zx will be alot more involving.
I will do some more research,, but what do you guys think of the price? 2008 left over for $9100.00 without taxes and plates.
Also when are the 2010's hitting the showroom? This might help lower the price some?
Thanks again.

You came to the wrong place to be talked out of buying a 14! I'm touching 9K miles on my bike after a year this month. owning a different bike is out of the question. the brakes, the lights, the power, the comfort, the support, the upgrades, raw satisfaction. pull the trigger you wont look back

Im about to go ride 2 hours to the bike shop with this deal and test it out.
Im about this far <......> from pulling da trigger.
And Yes that green is sexxi and badd ass at the same time,,, really funny I hate green on cars, yellow for that matter too. But I cant get that green outta my mind.
This bike in question is the dark blue,,,,,,,,,, almost looks black.
Anyone have good pics of this dark blue? I only seen a few on EBay.

I walked into the dealership back home to look at a white 07 SE that they had with super low miles on it and ended up riding home on it the same day. Needless to say, I skipped 1st base and hit somewhere between 2nd and 3rd on my way home :P. Here I am on deployment now with less than a year of riding it and I watch dragstrip videos and look at pictures everyday while living vicariously through all of you who are riding yours lol. She's been good to me so far. Made the ride from NE Texas to san diego in 3 days while getting 48-52mpg, made a couple hundred trips down the dragstrip, I've put 15k miles on it and she's still on the stock clutches! The only way to go wrong with a 14 is by following the busa crowd and not giving it the time of day and the respect that it demands and is taking everyday.
Enjoy your new life altering purchase and ride safe!
