Gutted out 08 header v. 07 OEM header - FIGHT!

Can't afford full system so asking... I can either buy 07 header and wait till I get enough money to get after-market slip-ons for 07 model to fit on the header... or I can gut out 08 header and keep my 08 mufflers for a while. Compared to most of you guys I'm mechanically-deaf, so to speak, so that's why asking

Now to our fight... 07 OEM header + 3rd party slip-ons v. 08 gutted out header + same brand/model 3rd party slip-ons but for 08 - who wins in a) performance b) weight and c) engine temps? Or is difference on all three too miserable to even consider?

Thanks, o bike overlords!

get rid of all of the cats, and to do so you need an 07 header imo... in reality though, it won't make much difference likely until you put a proper header and 4-1

The 08 09 header is much larger than the 06 07 header ... I tried bolting on the 06 cans on my 09 pipe and the 09 pipe was so big the cans would not fit ... So what i would do if i were you is gut the Cat in the header of your 08 and add some slip ons ... Or you could use an 06 07 head pipe and add slip ons to that , the 06 07 doesn't have a cat in the header like the 08 09 ..

Right, I figured those were my options, smokin, but I was just wondering what's the difference between 06-07 header + 06-07 slip-ons and 08-09 catless header and 08-09 slip-ons. For example, we know 08-09 header, even if gutted, is still heavier than 06-07 right? By like 2 pounds or something?

Also, we know that 08-09 header is larger like you just mentioned - so does that mean we get more flow? I.e., with cat removed, shouldn't it perform a bit better than 06/07 since it's larger and allows more flow (or does bigger size actually reduce performance in this case?) Those are the kinds of questions I'm wondering... maybe pointless questions, who knows, but just wondering lol

Well i allways like bigger ... With the cat removed for the 08 it should make more power than the 06 header with slip ons ..Think most of that 2 extra pounds is most the weight of the Cat ... Remove the cat it sould weight close to the 06 header..

The larger header May and i say May reduce some low end power but should make up that with added top end power .. Brocks pipe are very large but suffer no lose in power down low ... I see no real reason the 08 header would suffer any loss either ..

I am agreeing with Lee, but thought if you want the quick and dirty, easy way, the 06-07 has no collector cat

Not many are at the caliber of Lee's riding and wrenching skills, and the little bit gained from the amount of effort put in to remove the header cat may, or may not be necessary.
