You can lower it by raising the front forks through the triple clamps or you can get the Schnitz front end lowering blocks.

do not go more than 3/4 -1 inch in the forks unless you think its cool to smash your oil pan !

my email isn't working right now.
To safely lower it more than 3/4 or 1 inch, you will need a strap, or an internal lowering kit.
Do not use a strap on the steet or anything resembling corners.
Shnitz and MacIntosh sell the lowering kits.

I used the Schnitz 2.25" lowering kit. It left me with 2" suspension travel & 2.75" under the oil pan. No problem with bringing the front end down hard. The kit comes with great do it yourself instructions. I was able to do it without removing the forks from the bike. I believe there is a 1.5" kit also. You'll need an impact with a regular allen head to unbolt the cartridge. The bolt at the bottom is shallow so don't use a rounded allen head, it will round out the inside of the bolt when you try to unbolt the internals. Just a little heads up to help with your decision.

No loosen them after the frt is off the ground, as it can collapse in the triples if the pinch bolts are loose and there is weight on it
Just loosen the pinch bolts on top and bottom clamps, and slide them up.

what does dropping it in the trees an inch do to the geometry of the bike? I want to do this to touch ground a little better but am skeptical of making it handle funny or dangerously. I feel the engineers at KHI knew what they were doing. should the back be lowered a bit too? just some thoughts...

It will make the bike turn slightly quicker, and better IMO.
I ran it like that before my lowering links arrived, and I liked it except for one thing... it dives pretty hard when on the brakes, which the 14 does already with the pogostick springs in it.
Otherwise it was great, and really didn't effect high speed stability at all for me either.
Lowering it in the rear more than the front I especially did not like.
Raking out the 14 made it handle like a chopper, and tha actually made it less stable when cornering. Wanted to stand up in the corners, and felt like i was riding on the back of the front wheel if that makes sense. The center of gravity and the point of contact , roll center with the frt tire felt really messed up lowered more in the rear than the front.
