Another clutch question/comment
Went to the track tonight and my 09 with about 40 passes on it fried the clutch. I 60 footed fine and at about 330 it just nailed the rev limiter. That was all she wrote. I have never had a clutch just do that. After inspecting the clutch the middle fibers were just smeard off, not the inside ones (weird). Should I clean the oil screen and is this kind of weird. Maybe i am a bitch and need to let the damn clutch go quicker.

Look at pages 5 and 6 of my build thread. I roasted one, and pulled the pan. Personally, I'm glad I did.

Shane,
I took it apart at the track and in a hurry. On the release bearing (needle bearing) does that washer go over the bearing? It fell out and I didnt see where it came from. My clutch fibers looked just like that.

Yes, on top of the needle bearing and behind the pressure plate.

I get 200+ runs out of a zx14 clutch and most guys do also ... Tommy on his zx14 gets about 50 to 60 runs and untill tonight i didn't know why ...I went to the starting line and watched him and found he was twisting the throttle full open before the clutch was releasted ...He would stage at 3500 and with in a few feet his was up to 8000 RPMs ... This is what was eatting his clutches ... His 60s range from 1.45 to 1.50s and he also has a big problem with wheelys ...Now i know why... He had no clue he was going wide open so soon and snapping the clutch out at 8000 RPMs ... So i got him to stage at 5k and not turn the throttle untill the clutch was out ...It took a few trys but he started to get it...And guess what no more wheelys and he put down 3 good back to back runs ..I'm betting his clutchs will last a lot longer now ..

I feel your pain. Same thing happened to me in 06. Put schnitz springs in, and changed to synthetic oil and (knock on wood!!) I haven't replaced another one since! The 06 14 clutch ran perfect as of now! Only 8 passes on the 08, so no problems there, yet!

Smokin,
My 60's are about like Tommys. Answer me this? I have had problems with my air shifter not being adjusted right. When it would shift it would not fully engage into gear and it would hold the shifter up. If I am thinking right this would smoke a clutch quick by just spinning it at high rpms without engaging it.

No if it's not in gear there will be on load, so NO clutch wear ..It will be hard on the Trans but not the clutch plates..
