Cross-coast trip: looking for advice, meet-ups, free lodging :P
Hi all,
My roommate and I may take a trip from Nashville, TN to Sacramento, California (got a friend 45 min north of there) at the end of summer. We're trying to figure out the cost, but that will vary widely on what we want and can do. The idea is this: take a car with a trailer for 2 bikes, travel to first destination between TN and Cali and meet up there with some peeps from this forum (and maybe other forums, too) for some riding. Dine out/sleep, and ride to next destination closer to CA next day. Rinse/repeat until we reach California. There we got a buddy that will ride with us and let us stay at his house. This way we experience several new states and ride beautiful roads in several spots in the US, yet have our car to store clothes/gear.
So, if you live between Nashville, TN and Sacramento, California and would like to ride with us and you got space (floor will do just fine hehe) for 2 weary travelers, please reply! This will help us map-out the route, gas costs, and how much time we need. Then we can decide if we can afford this. We'll probably try to go through CO and the Grand Canyon, but if we don't find anyone who lives there, we might change route. This is a long trip and if we have to stay at hotels every night, we just can't afford it We'll buy you beer if you let us crash for a night!!
I will be taking my 08 ZX 14 SE and my roommate just replaced his old bike with an 04 CBR600RR. We are average riders, young but drive maturely and safely, although if it's safe to hit the twisties, I'd love to do that, too. He's German but permanent resident, I'm originally from Ukraine (my 7th year in the States) so this will be a huge opportunity for us to experience more US culture and such. I never really been west of TN.
I will post some pics of us when I get home since it's easier to trust someone you can actually see hehe.
Hope to find some co-riders here!!
Alex
Edit reason: Changed Fresno, CA to Sacramento - forgot my friend moved out of Fresno and to Olivehurst recently.

I live in ga, can't help you much! We move furniture (long haul) and we left boston, mass yesterday and were headed to san francisco now. So I understand long drives. The only help/advice I can give you is if you want a cheap way to get clean, most truckstops on major interstates have showers (usually $10ea) and they are cleaned after each person(you STILL wear shower shoes and don't touch anything in them!!!!!)
Carry you a tent, and that would be a cheap way to get by a few nights if necessary...

Alex, I realize South Dakota is not your route of choosing but if you get this way, Ive always got room for a road weary traveler , be it in a tent , or in my shop as i find myself sleeping there quite often, its comfortable, fridge, heat , A.C. and room for your car and bikes inside. This goes for any Bikeland members making their way through south east south dakota. Need a place to crash, wrench on bike ect. Give me a call (605) 553 2224 ANYTIME, always up to meet new people.

Good advice, eklipse, thx. Larry, thank you for the invite! Where in SD are you? If near south, you're actually not that far off from our route... we can just take a little detour via highways 29 and 90. Are there really nice bike routes around you? What do you ride?
Here's our default route - if anyone is within an hour south or north of this and is willing to help out/ride with us, let me know what city/state you're in and what kind of bike routes your neighborhood is proud of!
Click here for the default route - start in Nashville, TN, then off to Sacramento, CA, then to San Diego, and back to TN.

you're that close to Blue Ridge Mountains, Cheroholla Sky and Deals Gap, the Snake and your going to turn around a few miles before? You're going to miss some good times on good roads. Matter of fact, where you are turning around you're just missing thousands of miles of good mountain twisties!
I'm avoiding the FL heat this year and going there for 3 months. Here's a few pics I posted of the area:

Hey Id love to, Steve, but I'll probably be slowing you down - new bike, new tires, no real sportbike experience. But I don't mind trying! If u need a place to crash, let me know, got room. I'm off exit 226 on I-40 in Mount Juliet.

You wouldn't slow me or anyone I ride with down. We're all about "ride at your own pace and no faster". And every stop sign everyone waits up until the headcount is all there. No one is about people getting hurt or feeling under pressure to "keep up".
Thanks for the place to stay offer, I'm set though. I'll be staying and coming over from Asheville. And there's a few of us meeting for a ride in Crosseville TN on July 18th, staying at a hotel. Will be some fast folks out front. Medium in the middle group, and a few newer folks towards the rear. Going to be a GREAT ride, hope you can make that one - give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the ride details if you might be around that weekend!

Don't take 80 out of Sacramento ...Head north on hwy 70 35 miles to Marysville Ca ..In Marysville ( the gateway to the gold fields ) you will hit hwy 20 to grass Valley , Browns valley ... Hwy 20 will take you back to Hwy 80 ...While you are in Marysville make sure to go down town and see buildings from the gold rush as well as China town..Marysville was the oldest and largest city in Calif in the mid 1800s.. Stop and eat at the silver dollar salon on first st ( old whore house from the gold rush ) Make sure to ask for the tour of the cat house up stairs .Across the street from the silver dollar salon is the Bok Kai Temple, bok kai means water god in Chinese . When you get on hwy 20 in Marysville you will see a lake to your left , that is lake Ellis .. Stop and take time to feed the wild ducks that line the banks of Ellis lake ....Hwy 20 is full of twistys , old gold towns and great places to stop and camp ..

Alex, Im in sioux falls, so im a ways north of your planed route, not a lot of interesting roads close by me but when you get out by western edge of state that changes, nice riding through black hills, pretty flat and straight until then.

KNY, even though it's true that sometimes you make me wanna spank myself when I am merely thinking about the (per)fumes off your bountiful underarm hair, I have to sadly decline - spongebob was just never my thing, you see...
