Bike Cleaning and Storage question

Guys and Gals,
I live near the coast and only ride occasionaly. Once or twice a month.

The bike is kept under cover, but not out of the air flow. I can't use a bike cover as it gets hornets nests, spiders (we have Red Backs here and they LOVE this type of cover - and not the nicest feeling in the world when 4 of the bastards run off when you're taking the cover off!), never mind Geko shit everywhere.

And it isn't going to stop the sea air getting it anyway.
So i have to leave it 'open' if you know what i mean.

I'm sick of cleaning the chrome and the Ali and i'm getting rust spots on the forks where i have small pits.

I have just cleaned the bike with Solvol or known as AutoSol and it's in a clean state that i want to keep it like that till i take her out next time.

Question is: How can i protect the bike (As above inc Seats, mirrors etc), with some sort of 'applied covering'. I could wax it all, but not sure if waxing is the right way to go, so i was hoping that i could get some sort of protective spray.

So before i popped off to the shops and bought the wrong thing (if there is such a thing), i thought i'd throw it out to you people.

Any products that you use?

A good spray with WD40 would keep the rust and the critters off it. (Not on the brakes though).

+1 on the wd40 for the rusty chain.

i use eagle one carnuba wax spray on the plastics, windscreen, seat, frame, swingarm, exhaust (pretty much the whole bike) but not on the wheels. it comes in a blue bottle and you can buy it at any store that sells car cleaning products. just clean the bike, dry it, spray some wax on a clean dry rag and wipe it on until you have no streaks left on the bike. as you already know, wax small portions at a time. the carnuba wax gets deeper into the clearcoat instead of just sitting on top. it's not as slippery when riding either. try it out.

oh, and windex works extremely well for cleaning chrome ; )

hell with the spiders get a cheap cover from walmart in xl. economical and disposable at around $20. along with waxing and wd40 it should stay nice. the xl cover gives a nice loose fit as it is made for large touring bikes.

I thought of WD40, but wasn't sure about the wet film residue part of it.

I guess i was after a spray on coat that would be left dry - i dunno,,,

I don't have a lot of plastics, but LOTS of little head bolts, chrome plates with allen bolt heads sticking out, and other lumpy things that when cleaning it all and waxing them leaves my fingers cut and marked by tryign to get it done quickly. And with the waxes, it's impossible to get the reside out when it gets into the finer divits and holes etc.

Since i only ride once in a while now, i'm getting tired of cleaning it, just to keep the shine there and the surface rust off, when i'm not even using it.

Bigdtd, I've had a cover and it probably would be the best overall, but the Geko's and other 'creepy crawlys' find a nice home - of which they shit and piss everywhere.

I think BobC might be right. It'll keep the 'air' off the metals and the creepy's may not like it.

OK. WD40 it is!
That'll keep the surface rust of those front discs once and for all
