Radar Detector mount.
Ok, so i'm cheap.  I tried a ride or two with the stock passport mount and it sucked big time. too much vibration, could not even read the display.
So I had some strap layign around the garage, fashioned up a mount that bolts to the unused hole behind the speedo under the windscreen ...
3 rides so far and that thing is so stable it's pathetic. when riding i can see the temp guage with my left eye, fuel with my right. I simple lean to either side and I can see dash info.

My Escort 8500 X50 has a head set plug so I can use speakers in helmet to hear my dector
with out looking at it.

Nice idea. I was pretty cheap as well. Zip tied the mount to bike and use velcro for gadget to mount. Comes off now almost 1 1/2 year.... getting there... very easy. Can also velcro other gadgets to use same mount.

How did you attach the detector to the strap?

I never had no vibration issues with the Bel mount, but I was using a double bubble at the time, which provides a slightly more vertical mount to stabilize against.
Yours looks good though

I run a Techmount stem mount but I'm not crazy about it. It gets in the way of the keyswitch and obscures the display of the R/D. On the other hand it is rock solid stable and I don't necessarily have to read the display with Screamer alerts. I tryed and disliked the H.A.R.D. system, mine ate batteries quickly and then with no warning wouldn't alert. That earned me a ticket and I threw it away and went with the Screamer, it really is much more reliable.

Hey, sounds like you've had some trauma in the past and your still riding...
and riding a fast one yet...
Ape hangers on a 14 are still cooler than any Hardley!

FYI- You can get the techmount that puts the electronic device further back on the tank just enough to keep stuff from blocking your view of the instrument panel.

FYI: You might get some more room if you switch to a Puig windscreen. Thus allowing you to see your info screen. Just my 2 cents.

Ok, some answers to some questions ..
1. Why pay 150+ for a helmet LED when 10.00 will get you a set of earbuds. Also, the 9500i has 'voice' which is very handy in letting me know X, K, Ka, Marked locations etc ... Let's see the HARD speak to you.
2. My risers are Helibars. Good for 1 inch of rise, plus the Buell peg mods adds another 1.25 inches. JUST enough for my bad hips.
3. Unit attaches to mount with velcro. I stole my wifes cheap craft velcro and amazingly it stick like glue. I struggle to get it off.
4. Puig screen coming soon.
5. I thought about Techmount but it blocks as much of the keys and such as my solution does the dash. the rear facing Techmount also put the detector closer to your body thus reducing your rear facing protection. the further forward the unit, the more rear protection you have.
And to note, if everybody gave me .02 cents, I'd be a rich rich man.
Good to see some fo the other solutions guys, keep it up. Always good advice here.

On yesterdays ride the laser went off twice, each time i popped over 100.
Anyone have that happen?

Yeah, that happens on my Mille. But when I changed out the DB Chrome tinted screen for a Puig it quit happening. Must be the way it reflects the light spectrum.
I use an even cheaper radar mount.

Started with this:
Stuck some velcro on top of the plate
I cut out the lock set striker plate with tin snips and then cleaned it all up with a belt sander..
Drilled holes in it to match the riser hole pattern.
It helps if you put some wood between the top and bottom plate so you don't collapse the thin sides.
I also drilled a hole for easy access to the rebound dampening adjuster.
Then painted it black and added velcro.
It must have cost me all of $8 to build it.
BTW, I took my helmet apart and cut out holes for some helmet speakers.
The X-Sound2 speakers sound great.
I glued the bottom and sides of my cut out so that no more Styrofoam would come out. then mounted the speakers with velcro.
Covered the whole thing back up with the helmet material that I had peeled back and glued that back down plus a couple of staples just in case.
I use a Radar Override from Kennedy Technology group. That way I can listen to music and then when the detector gets a signal it just overrides the music.
It works very well and I haven't had to improve on it for years.

Cutting out the Styrofoam in your helmet???!!! GLUE to keep more from falling out!!!??? STAPLES INSIDE your lid!!!!!????

Too funny....
No, the ear pieces have a semi recessed area already. I just made them deeper. The holes don't go through to the shell.
Glue on the bottom of those holes to keep any styrofoam from coming loose. Makes a clean mount for velcro.
Recovered the area that I peeled back and used 2 staples each side on the material that went between the styrofoam ear piece and the helmet shell. Staples from a desk stapler because my 3/4" staple gun was out of staples.
No damage to the helmets integrity, believe me.
You guys crack me up.

Naw, I didn't take any pictures of the cut outs and material. Wish I had though because a number of people have asked how I did it.
BTW, on this Nolan helmet the entire ear piece(s) comes all the way out. So does everything else inside of the shell.
Prior to the mod I had the speakers on in surface of the inner material. It worked but always hooked my big ears putting the helmet on and pressing against my ears started to hurt after more than a few minutes.
Ear buds are a pain to put in, keep in etc.. Plus they block other sounds like screeching tires and sirens.
Counter boring them in a half inch was the best choice. The speakers aren't much larger than an inch and a quarter in diameter.
But make sure that you shorten the wire and use a coupler. That way the wires won't break from too much flexing.
It's kind of hard to see in this picture but I held the coupler in an adal clamp. That's held in place by a tiny brass screw that goes through an expired GNC Gold Card. The gold card I cut and glued to the inside shell of the helmet. Then the ear piece was put back in.
It's held for over a year now.
To answer your question. Ponch likes it but John says it's kinda ghey (NTTIAWWT).
