Ohlins Dragshock testing...

I just installed the shock along with some of Brock's window links. I will be testing it soon.
The next T+T is Saturday June 6 at Tri State Dragway in Hamilton, Ohio. I will post up
results as soon as I can. Later...

Ok. a few views no posts, no problem. I will be at Tri State Dragway tomorrow gates open
at 4:30 T+T starts at 5:00 pm. If someone from the forum happens to be there come
and introduce yourself. I will be on the blue 14(obviously) with the black catalyst drag seat.
I would like to video my runs to see the results. All I have to do that with is my digital
camera. If you can bring a better recorder I will pay your entry ($5) and buy you a hot dog
and a pop. This may be the only chance I can get online tonight as I am at work right now.
So if you post a reply don't worry if I don't respond. Thanks a bunch.

Due to poor track conditions Saturday, I have no concrete results to post at this time.
I will say this about the links and shock: The ease of adjustability the links provide is well
worth the money they cost. All you need is two wrenches and a tape measure if so
desired. No jack, no extra pair of hands. A person that cannot trailer their bike to the track
would benefit greatly from the use of the links. Lower the bike when you get to the track,
Raise it before you go home. The rebound dampening the shock provides has to be seen
to be believed. At the lowest setting, you can push down as hard as you can on the bike and
count to 15 before the bike has returned back to it's normal ride height. If I can get to a
better track I hope to post up some worthwile results for others to see. Till next time...

I for one had NO DOUBT you'd be thrilled with that shock and that it'll track, stick, and the whole bike will behave better on pavement 1000000000000000000000 times better than the factory shock!

Whats your set up, as in your weight, riding style?...How is your bike set up?

Your riding on the Street and DragRacing or just riding to the Strip???

What made you buy a DragShock?

CR, here goes: 16/46, 64 1/2 wb, air shift, alien head w/ Maxton map, U-soft, MR-11
220 lbs suited. It is ridden on the street then strapped and lowered for the track.
I purchased the shock on advice I received from Brock after I stretched the bike.
I trailer the bike to the track. I work nights and Tri State is the only track I can get to
regularly. As others on this board will attest it is hit and miss as far as track conditions go.

Its tough to set your rear shock up for street then DragStrip...

You need to find a good street set up and write it down...But the problem is that you have a DragShock being used for the street...The dampening is different for Drag and Street shocks...

Then go to the DragStrip and find a good set up and write that down...Now you will be able to change ur set up much easier between the street and strip...

Its best to put a tiger tail on so u get more clearence!!!...always keep checking to see if the tire scrapes the undertail...

CR, the ZX14 stock shock is HORRID on the streets and curves. there is no decent setting. That marshmallow thing (on its tightest setting)....

ask bigdtd what the suspension tuner said about it, or ask sticks and stones why he paid the big bucks to lose that dayum thing. or ask why so many that turn their ZX14 with peg feelers removed scraped up their fairings...

Yes Steve,
we all know the stock 14 suspension is a wallowy marshmellow, weak elastic band feel.
However, a Drag specific shock is the opposite end of the extremes for the street.

Too much rebound control can make the suspension pack, and skip over bumps

Your right Steve, but if you take the time to dial in the stock shock it does get better...

The main thing most riders never touch is the spring preloads on the forks and rear shock...Compressing the springs is the very first thing one should do first and test it on the roads most used...

Dont adjust the forks and shocks until the suspension is warmed up after taking a 1/2 hour ride and do it 1 click or 1 full turn at a time...

Also.....It all depends on how much you weigh!!!...The more you weigh the more you need to turn the rear shock spring adjuster clockwise, by getting a marker, making a mark and turning clockwise till the mark comes around...

The manufacturers set the suspensions up for 150lb. riders and Kawasaki springs are soft so you need to compress the springs first before touching the rebound and compression!!!

I find my zx14 shocks to stiff for me ( 150 pounds ) You think the zx14 is soft ?? Try riding a New Vmax .. The Vmax feels like a 1969 ford truck with twin I beam with the shocks removed ... Oh Steve a Vmax is made by Yamahamer ...

you are the exception Lee!
In fact the 14 is sprung perfectly for 150 lb jockey, I would imagine it still is a little bit underdamped, even for yourself though, or at least lacking the progression it could have!

Not bashing at all - For the record, the Yami factory rear shock is utter garbage too. And I'm, not a Yami man by any means its just another brand I've owned in my life

Easy fellas. I'm just trying to provide some info for other folks on the site. What works for
one may or may not work for another. I want to find out how well this will work for me and
let others come to their own conclusions. As far as the rebound dampening for the street
there is plenty of adjustment to provide a comfortable ride on the street (my opinon only).
Just bear with me and I will get some results up as soon as I can. Thanks.

Its all good! I was at Ohlins and spoke with them specifically about the ZX14 shocks capabilities and ranges and already suspect you're going to have positive results.

I have a Penske drag shock. It worked great out of the box, but I have some changes to make now that the bike setup is a little different...

Ok. Going to try again tomorrow. Once again, I will extend the offer of paying your entry of
5$ and a hot dog and a pop if anyone can show up to video my runs for me. I will be at
Tri State Dragway in Hamilton, Ohio for T+T from 5pm to 9pm. Thanks.

Once again, no good results as my clutch and battery decided to give out at the same time.
Soooo.... I'm going to go through it with a fine tooth comb and replace what's needed.
Probably won't be back at it until mid July.
