dropped the motor out of the 14, ordered Hong Kong farings

Well I dropped the motor out of the 14 today. WOW it's heavy, recently I have been doing some work on a couple of GSXR1000's and I can carry one of those motors around. I am going to pull the head off tomorrow and install some of the carpenter valve springs and a cometic thin head gasket. Thought about having the head worked but I am going to keep it simple. flipped it, pulled the pan and oil pickup, it looked horrible. Even though this bike was stock somebody had been riding the clutch hard at sometime. I would say 30% of the pickup was blocked with what looked like burnt clutch goo or ???? The clutch plates look good but who knows if it's the original set? You should clean your pickup after every other set of plates at least. The inside of the motor was not really bad, Cut the oil filter open and didn't strike gold which is good. I am still going to just put a new set of rod bearings in it just for good measure. I ordered a set of the Ebay Hong Kong special faring kit. It's the black ones with the red ghost flames. I fiqure it will match my SE 07 red wheels. My buddy has had two sets and they are on GSXR1000's. One is the Corona racing colors and the other is a black and silver set. I have to say they fit very good. They don't come with the sound pad but he made new ones with stuff from Lowe's. Anyway it's a complete set for $654 dollars shipped to the house. I will let you know how the fit and look.

the bottom end is super stout on these the zx14 crank BARE weighs almost the same as busa crank with the rods on it!

Unless you are splitting the cases, I would leave the bearings alone.
Its near impossible to get a torque reading off the rod bolts from the bottom, and IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to use a stretch guage on the rod bolts from the bottom.

The stock rod bolts are throw aways, and they are supposed to be replaced.
The manual doesn't give torque readings, just stretch or index

thats my 2 cents anyway... do it right.

I am splitting the cases. I would never dream of trying it any way else. And as far as rod bolts I thought it was a given you don't reuse them. I want everything fresh and new. It's a used bike that slid down the road for no telling how far and it looks to have burnt up a set of clutch plates at sometime in it's life. Plus what if the previous owner was one of those dudes that thinks it's cool to hold it on the rev limiter in neutral around his friends. I already have the motor out. I just want it to be right.
