oil change - where did 1L go
2007 zx14 with 3500 miles , 1st service at 1000 miles not 600 miles. this is second service.
Today i changed my oil but only 3.5 liters came out, this is with filter out. However before the oil change i looked in the window - levels where with in normal range.
I added 4 US qt of synthatic oil - oil level in the window is normal - so you should i add another .5 to 0.8 qt.?
and what does it mean filter out vs engine complete dry (isn't the engine completely dry when i remove the filter)
final question how often should i change the oil - manual recommends every 7k miles. other then oil change anything else i can do to prolong the life of bike?

Completely dry is when you have a new motor that never had oil in it. Or when you had it appart for some reason or another.
As for as the 1L, I bet it has something to do with how level the bike was when you checked the oil window. And these will burn some oil over 3500 miles. I have had the same thing happen to me..
If the oil level is in the middle of the window when the bike is being ballanced on level ground after letting the oil settle for a few mins after running, then its good, dont over fill.
As for 7000mile changes? Id do it when the oil looks dark in the window. Seems that mine gets dark after about 3-4k miles.
To prolong the life of your bike, dont crash it..lol And just keep a good clean air filter in it and follow the owners manual for adjustments and ect..
