Was going to add second cooling fan...decided not needed

I was going to order a second fan kit for my 14, but decided to be sure it was needed. I idled the bike in my garage on an 80 degree day for 23 minutes, the temp gauge went up to one bar above the middle and stayed there rock solid for most of the 23 minutes as the fan cycled on and off. I got the impression it could have did that all day, so no 2nd cooling fan for me. I don't think the money and time is needed
I also looked over the welds I could see, they looked great, nice and even, no cracks and the bike purred like a kitten. Its nice when things work like they should

Wish my bike would do that, it goes to the 2nd bar down from the top...and it does run noticeably hotter than my 06 did.

Steve,
I would try pulling the timing back to 2 degree's advanced, maybe stock if that doesn't help.
Although nobody has stated or noted the timing was changed for 08.
Now I think it was.
It sounded like you were more than happy with the power anyway.

Mine will do the same as far as if im sitting in the garage the fan will come on and off but once i get out on the road and begin to take it through the paces and then roll back into town it begins to get hot. Not sure how mines going to do when its 105 out and sitting in traffic!!! I already have wrapped the headers and engine ice. Im still thinking about it on mine

ive noticed here in GA that both my 06 and 07 are 1 bar from top in traffic at 80+degrees.
engine ice for my 06 was a 1 bar drop. never had a prob after that. even at 90+degree days.
but this 07 is a wee bit quicker to get hot. engine ice is my first step for this one.

I may give that a try...it pulls so fucking hard, it may not make much difference in that department, but may make it run cooler, as you said.

Did you wire it directly to the fan or did you find the relay that controls the fan and energize it that way ?? I was looking to do the same thing but wasn't able to find the relay.

no problems here in sunny florida. i run engine ice just because i flushed the system and had to put something back in. i run an aftermarket exhaust which definitely helps but in many traffic situations and hard running no problems with the stock setup of one fan. almost 11000 miles and runs better all the time.

I'm going to keep a good eye on my during some nice hot hard rides, then hitting traffic. Its been a long off season for me, but from what I remember last year I didn't have any real heating issues to speak of. I've been wanting to put the second fan on for awhile now, but I was still suprised how well it did idling and getting spun up a little in the garage for 23 minutes though. I have to admit I thought it was getting a little hotter than that in actual traffic. I might do a manual fan switch while its apart instead

If you want better cooling but dont want the hassle of installing a second fan, then get the Muzzy fan. Its dead simple to put on and flows noticeably more air. How do I know? Because now my legs get REALLY warm on hot days. Seriously though, it is legit and works as advertised. Drawbacks are its noticeably louder (no big deal, but you definitely know whether its on or not), and most of them hit the upper fan shroud and you MUST trim it or you end up with the aluminum fan chewing through it with a godawful noise, then the fan is out of balance enough to make more noise than it should. Ask me how I know... still worth it though.

prob comes when you turn engine off while bike is hot in hot temps.. get bike hot... turn engine off for a minute or so, then turn back on. fan shuts off when bike is off so heat builds up - repeat this cycle (ie: in traffic or multiple city stops) and you could end up in hot water (so to say).

WELL if that's a problem do this > Turn the bike off and then turn it back on without hitting the starter button ..The fan will run till the temp comes back down ...I have done that a few times at the track after hot lapping 5 or 6 in a row . It cools down real quick but make sure your battery is up to snuff or you might be walking home ..

Another option is to wire in a permacool adjustable fan controller and put the probe in the upper right hand portion of the radiator. The adjustability and the installation was easy, In traffic riding and parking the fans will run for about 1-2 minutes after you shut the bike off. It ultimately solved the fan problem in my opinion. I also have a 2nd fan with this setup,,

Power directly from a terminal strip (use the strip to power other things also) I have mounted on a air duct to a switch then tape into the fan side of its connector not the wiring harness side.
That way the relay can turn on the fan when it is triggered or I can override 'manually'.
Got real tired on the kill switch game.

The fan relay (from memory) is on the left by the ecu .
But I just put an override switch , in parralel , to the thermostat.
Also added Liquid Performance coolant and had no troubles here in the tropics!
