South Memphis - FAST FACTS
Three people killed in motorcycle crash
Speeding said to be a factor
I-240 was diverted for several hours

(South Memphis 05/14/09) A deadly motorcycle crash tied up traffic in I-240 for several hours overnight.

Three people were killed in the crash which happened in the southbound lanes just past the South Parkway exit just after 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

Officers say a group of about twenty or thirty motorcyclists were driving extremely fast when one of them hit the rear fender of a car, lost control and crashed. A second motorcyclist lost control, and ran over the first crash victim and wrecked. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The third person died at the hospital.

The crash also caused two minor crashes because of the backed up traffic.

They payed the price for something we have all done .
Please keep it to the track , where accidents rarely happen,
and there is help seconds away ,if you do go down .

I 240 is very dangerous with a high volume of traffic. We only ride Memphis area with 3 or 4 bikers. It seems that with large groups things can go bad quickly. One of our friends said the male rider's helmet came off and it was a terrible scene. The King Riders biker club is having a benefit at their clubhouse on Raines Rd. in Memphis sunday for the deceased.Wednesday night is bike night and Beale St. and Downtown are flooded with bikes.
