One piece leathers, gloves with a wrist and cuff fastening, proper race boots which will stay on your feet if the worst happens and the best helmet you can afford. I assume you don't have a cheap body so don't get cheap gear.

I wear sidi scorpion boots... I've tried other boots, but these aren't clunky so it's easy to shift in them. Also, I wear a set of track skinz leathers that wayne made for me with wider leg openings so that they go over my boots. I'll try to snap a few pictures later today.

Dainese jacket. Didn't think about different zipper styles, might take it in and try it on a pair...if I can find a store that stocks the pants (or call Joe Rocket). Also, jacket has a thick nylon back instead of leather. Is that safe/legal at the track? Skin is more important than money!

What's you budget, and how often do you plan to go to the track?
If you are going to be a track-rat then spend the money and get good COMFORTABLE name brand stuff. If you're going to use them a few weekends a year then some of the cheap leathers off ebay will do the job just fine. Some will say one brand is better than the other.
Some suit will fair better than other but I have buddies that have track tested the cheap ebay suits and them did what they were designed to do.
If you crash almost any brand of leather you buy will protect you.
Would you rather replace a $1000 suit or a $300 suit .
The biggest difference is the soft leather , custom fit if you stay the same size and don't gain 5 lbs every year like I do.
vented 2pc whatever you get......One piece is hard to say in when it get hot ....at the track.

I have Vanson's and can't say enough about how well I like them. That being said, if you are just getting started and have a pretty normal build the Joe Rockets are well designed for drag racing and priced well. You want to make sure the leathers you decide on have a full circumference zipper if you go two piece. Land speed guys as well as super bike guys like the one piece, dragracers tend to go to the two piece. This way you can easily shed your jacket in the pits while you are BSing about how fast you are. Boots should at least cover the ankle and if you are a foot dragger then you may look for something that has replaceable parts. You will eat up some boots quick if you are dragging.

Just to add the pro steet boots have great bracing in them but yet feel like a sneaker to wear
