42 or 43?

I am currently running a 16 front and 42 rear. Im around 170 suited and was wondering if it would help my times at all if I were to go up to a 43tooth rear? Heres a couple of slips My best is the 9.50. I know my 60fts are in need of some work yet but dont know if im loosing more after the 60ft because of the 42 tooth rear? (J099 on both slips) And heres a video not one of my better runs Im in the far lane and you can hear what I am doing with the clutch. I do that on all the runs even the 9.50. Is the 2 stage set too low??

What is your launch rpm with the 2 step? Sounds like you are letting the clutch out fast and bogging it...

Ok, ok...

You should never hear the revs drop like that when you launch the bike.

Do you have the throttle pinned when you launch? 3200 is really pretty low. When you throw the clutch out it has no power (or gear) to pick up the revs...I can hear it.

With it stretched I leave at 5500 rpm and does fine. But I'm not "dumping" it but getting it out fairly quick. I'd try raising the rpm up.

I weigh 235 suited and ran a 16/42 last month to try it and netted 1.51 60fts. I believe 16/42 should be ideal for your weight. Your 330ft times are off by at least 2 tenths for your mph. Like Shane is saying, you are throwing the clutch away and bogging the bike. Try 4000-4500 and stay on the clutch while opening the gas. It aint gonna be easy like chunkin' the lever cause I'm guilty of what you are doing every time I change gearing. Work on the first 330ft until you get the 330ft in the 3.9 sec. range at least.

Now, if you have it pinned coming off the line ( 2 step), I would be careful bringing the revs up. Try it +500 revs at a time, to make sure it doesn't get away from you.

Do away with the 2 step. Without long wheelbase or bars it will put you on your ass if you screw up.
Damn, I sure am opinonated...

Not sure if it's your bike, his bike or both, but I counted the shifts and it sounds like you're in between gears when going through the traps. Sounded like you had a lot of 5th gear to wind out when you crossed the finish line. You should either gear up or gear down to finish at the top of 4th, or 5th.

No I dont Shane...I usually put the throttle just a bit past where the 2 stage kicks in

so what is the purpose of the 2 step? I think the 43 may help pull you through the 60s though

Gear it lower, put a 44 on it and see what happens. I bet you will like it. Being as your bogging itl help. If you cant slip the clutch right thats what i would do.

I know what your saying...I dont have a whole lot of passes on the bike since the mods...Ive had one test and tune and 3 races with it. It is very consistant being I won twice so far. I just gotta get myself to turn the throttle and hold on.

Yes. They are 4-5 mph higher than the numbers should reflect. Your numbers would drop 2-3 tenths if your 60fts were in the 1.5's.

You could go to more gear. But if you want to use what you have, start with holding more throttle when you engage the clutch. You are not putting the 2 step to use. It barely takes any throttle to hold 3200 rpm...and with that gear you need to give it plenty.

You can easily go 1.5's on 16/42...I did 1.51's on 17/43 at your wheelbase, and weighing 50 lbs. more!

So do you recommend keeping the 2 stage set where it is and just give more throttle when I stage and come off the lights? Then once i get that down, start bumping the 2 stage up?

I would recommend not using it at all and stalling the bike up to 4500 and feeding gas and clutch when you move. This way you learn the limits of how much you can throw at the controls. A two step is not designed for feathering a clutch so i have no recommendations for you there.

I can let you know what I think of the 43 after next weekend as my pan won't be here in time for this weekend. the couple passes I made I think it shows alot of potential. I've never ran in the 5's that easy and I was not leaving hard and short shifting to make sure the shifter worked.

I dont think it is the 2 stage I have ran several passes with the 2 stage off. I ran Identical numbers as with it on. And I disagree with being able to feather the clutch with a 2 stage. That all depends on how you have the clutch switch shimmed. I have the clutch switch shimmed so theres just enough tension on the chain then it turns off the 2 stage. But I will take you advise and give it a few tries again with it off.

220 suited right now. And I went the 5.98 with a 1.53 60ft which I can go low 1.40's with my old gear. I just needed a few more runs. should be able to run low 9.teens or 9.0's
