bike wrecked last night at dragstrip, walked away
Well, last night was a nighrmare. It could have been a lot worse, but it was just my bike and not me besides all bruised up.
We were bracket racing and I was in the left lane. As we staged it took him more than 10 second to turn second stage light on, so I got the win. I made my full pass and as usual started slowing down after the finishline.I never heard the guy in the right lane leave, so when I get across the line I keep turning around to see where he is, nowhere to be found. I'm talking about I turned around 5 or 6 times. HES NOT THERE. So I'm taking my time getting ready to make the turn when all of a sudden, BAM! He never slowed down, hitting me in my right rear swingarm splitting it completely in two, threw me between 30 and 40 ft into the other side into the grass. I jumped up immediately and he's out. He never woke up until they got him to the hospital. Come to find out it was the guys first time at the track, and he didn't know where the turnaround was. I got a phone call t 130am last night from the track saying he was awake, aware of his surroundings. He told them he was still going over 100mph. I'm just bruised and banged up, but I walked away. On the other hand, the bike didn't. Took a few pics with my cell phone. I was still a little shaken last night when I got home, but JUST by the looks, I need:
Rear rim
Swingarm
All plastics
Guage cluster
Oil pan
Right engine case cover
Gas tank
Bent lowering links
That's just off the top of my head. Insurance isn't going to cover it, so I guess its gonna depend on if the frame is hurt to whether its fixable... I'm seriously so depressed ab this I'm kinda lost.

First off, glad you are ok. My girlfriend crashed her GSXR at our local track, and they kept sending bikes. Luckily she got up and out of the road.
That's really scary...I am leery of running at my local 1/8th mile track after what happend with Racheal. So many new guys, so little tech, and bad track conditions.
Anyway, don't let it get you too discouraged. Check the bike out, figure out if it is worth repairing. If not, part it out, get another...just keep moving.

Glad you're alright. That's messed up what he did.
I'm sorry, but that guy is a damn idiot. How STUPID can he be seriously?! First off why is he cruising at 100mph trying to find the turn off AFTER the race is over, and it's not that hard to miss a huge opening atleast big enough for a huge car or plus some.

Glad your ok, you can always get a bike man. Dont get too down about it, after all your still alive and not seriously hurt. I got rear ended awhile back on the 14 by a friend on a busa doin a wheelie, messed alot up, broke and bent stuff i wouldnt think could be bent. But i never went down and eventually fixed my bike, so just remember you come first and your bike comes 2nd.

I am going home to Mi in a couple weeks. When I get there I'll see what fairings I got sitting around(not a complete set but got some good ones). And I have an 07 blue gas tank with a small scuff that can be buffed out, and a set of stock lowering links. Email me at Dez64@hotmail.com if your interested. I'll give you a very good price to get you back on the road a.s.a.p. The parts are collecting dust in the garage. I know how it feels I crashed my bike last summer. Hence the extra parts. Glad your ok though!

Glad your OK bro...!
Like Shane said keep moving ....
As far as the bike, I personally would not trust that the frame is not bent.
I have a busa in the garage that was hit mildly from the rear by a car, the subframe, tailsection and rear rim were all damaged, upon closer inspection the main frame was tweaked as well.
I would not have thought aluminum (especially cast aluminum)would bend as much without cracking, but it did, and it was the cast piece between the swingarm and subframe area that bent, I seriously doubt it could be repaired, and if it could it would be submitted to another tremendous impact again getting it there and might be come embrittled...
Cast aluminum really has low modulus of elasticity...
I guess what I am suggesting is parting what you have, and buying a low mileage bike that has already got some of your mods for less than a new one...
I think you might be financially better of parting your bike and buying a modified one....
Something to consider anyway while you heal up....

Sounds like the organisers at the track were at fault. If it was his first time then he hadn't been schooled properly in the correct proceedure and they ought to have informed you that he was a novice as well. He should have been wearing a novice jacket too, that's what happens at our club until the stewards and the race officials are happy. Safer for everyone that way.
Good to hear that you are relatively unscathed. Who pays for the bike?

Bobc, I'm paying for the bike. It crossed my mind to see what I could do, but I just put the insurance on my own policy, and I think it would make it go up so much that I'd be better off just to pay to have this fixed, or part it out. I still owe $4000 on the bike... So that's one main problem I'm having. I move furniture, and business has been pretty bad, so I'm not exactly "bankin" it, barely payin the bills. So I'm gonna have a difficult time payin for this.

That's why there's a drivers meeting at the head of staging before events. As for novice jackets.... Uhm, no. at a dragstrip you will never see that here in the states. Roadcourses yes, but dragstrips no. I guess maybe I'm just spoiled from everyone at our track being friends and helping the new guys when they come around.

Dubious, weird thing is, the subframe dosent look bent... It blew my catalyst seat inbetween me and the bike, but I'm sure it might be a little, but nothing serious, but where the swingarm bolts to the frame is where I'm afraid I'm going to have a problem. If that's ok, and I have said many many prayers hoping it is, then I think I can fix the bike within a year or so. The more I think ab it, I had a bunch of angels watchin over me, bc .01 seconds slower and my leg would be gone.

Seriously, though...glad you are alive. A few feet otherwise, and you could have been a goner...be glad it's the bike you are worrying about.

And people say bolt ons aren't "strong enough". I don't think they are bent, maybe a little stressed, but I will def take them off and have a look. The other side of the swingarm buckled where the right side broke. I'm like a lot of yall, this bike was my baby. Bought it new in 06 and built it to where it is now and it took 3 years... One dumbass and its almost worse than starting over...

Eklipse this is such tragic news but it's great to hear that you walked away from it in one piece! Maybe the guy that ran into you will help cover the cost of repairing/replacing your bike. Post up a list of the parts you need when you get a chance.
Glad you are alright!
