Icky Icky Sandy Gritty Yuckies

So, my bike was in the shop not too long ago and now my paint feels like sand paper. I bought Mother's Cleaner/Wax and that did it a little bit but not much. I was told to try Mother's Clay Bar and that would knock it out. Do you guru's have a better idea? The Clay Bar is almost twenty freaking dollars but I want to get this crap out of my paint.

I don't see how it can be "in" your paint? I would use the softest cleanser, warm water, and a gentle cloth on it. Get the grit off of the surface, rather than rubbing/grinding it further into the paint.

use the clay bar, it comes with a big bottle of detailer, and you can use it many times. The paint will be slick, I use it when needed.

Here is some info on the clay bar, seems like an ok product..although I don't like the sounds of "some of your car's paint color" showing up on the clay. That would seemingly indicate it has went through the clear coat:

http://www.customrodder.com/tech/0409cr_mothers_clay_bar_review/

All I could picture was you "waxing" the grit further into the paint.

I wish I knew. the bike was in his shop for a week and when i got it back it felt like sand paper to the touch. i tried using Plexus and that did NOTHING, so i bought Mother's Cleaner/Wax which did VERY LITTLE. I was told by the guy who works on my bike to use the clay bar but I am still po'ed that my bike came back in that condition. I figured I'd ask you guys before buying it.

If you do get it, report back. If it does go through the clear (if you get your paint color on the clay), I'd like to avoid the product.

Thanks!

Sounds like someone was using a grinder beside your bike, and the hot metal was hitting the bike, grinding and arc flash from welding will pit glass permanently too.

I would be speaking about small claims court with the manager myself.
They can get replacement parts for 2/3 what they sell them for.

Claybar will not go thru the clearcoat, it is what its called, its a piece of clay, it will pickup any debris on the paint, you will be amazed at what the paint feels like after using it.

I was only going by what I read in the review of the product:

"You'll know the clay's working the first time you flip the piece over and find it slowly turning from yellow to brown (with a hint of your car's color).

Maybe they used it improperly? At any rate, sounds like rave reviews from the guys here.

Quickly, what is on your paint is called fallout. If the shop is near a train track you will get metal dust pariticals or even in the shop when they cut rotors or blow off brake dust it settles on the paint and with humidity sticks to the paint. CLAY BAR that SOB.

if the pitting is raised its likely fallout or overspray, if its "into" the surface, its likley burned in from hot metal....
Good luck.

That or it could be overspray from another job. That happened to me in my garage 15 feet away from where I started with a rattle can no less. If it's just overspray, the clay bar will make it nicey nice again.

Thanks everyone. I bought the Mother's Clay Bar on my way to work this morning and I am going to try it tomorrow before work. After reading what you guys said about the metal overspray I called my mechanic this morning to make sure this was not going to have a lasting effect on my ride, and he assured me that it wouldn't, and that the clay bar will make my bike smooth guaranteed. He also mentioned that if for whatever reason I have problems then i should bring the bike and clay bar to him and he will do it for me. I plan to buy some wax for it as well.

I think it comes with its own little soap dish case which is cool. If it works well on my bike I think I might try it on my car as well.
