Cam chain adjuster

I have 27K now and it takes 2 restarts to reset the auto adj. What are the problems with going to a manual bolt replacement? Do you set it warm or cold or does it cause problems set cold too tight and hot too loose? Looked up the past threads but no mention of hot or cold adj.

Cold set. The best way is to take so much slack out of the chain. The trick is not to burn the slipper because you wanted zero movement out of the chain, you load the slipper too hard. The chain accelerates the wear. The automatic moves when the chain wears or the slipper wears a groove in it.

You are now a constant adjuster or else you will not know how sloppy that chain and sipper tend to get if you do not stay on top of it like the automatic adjuster with oil assist to lock the tension down under fluid, not static like you are about to zipper the slipper is take a pee is as much maintenance almost.

I had one on my 01 zx6r and I checked adjustment after every other ride. It was easy to get to though, no fairing removal.

I got a A.P.E. manual. They are a hassle cuz you have to at least pull the foreman grill to get at it. And then you dont have a real good feel on the tension being applied to the adjustment bolt.
Like pissear says, you now have to be the adjuster all the time.
Maybe pull your stocker and check for wear and/or other problems.
i'm thinking about putting the stocker back on.

I put the APE tensioner on my bike .... they need adjustment as often as the valves do !

I was 8K plus miles and it was still fine. If you install / adjust properly, they are set it and foget it !
