In the interest of testing, I grab'd a 210/40/18 Metzler tire today. Interesting differences;
The 210/40/18 will be 24.6 tall", section width 8.3", 3.3" section height.

The 200/50/18 was 25.9" tall section width of 7.9" and section height of 4"

Looks like 1.3 inches shorter, so we'll see if it accelerates better. This is easily the cheapest way to change gearing so 1st gear isn't so tall. We have base times to compare the 2.

I'll mount it next week and we'll find out (soon as I finish this one off)

We finally got to try the new tire and Lee improved the 60ft times to the best any 2009 Vmax has run to date @ 1.66 Here's some slips the 3 on the left are Lee's.

Lee Vs ZX10? Couldn't really tell what this was, but the new tire helped 60ft times & Lee said would run 9.90's now. That's all you're gonna get from a stock Vmax.

Lee may make history this Thursday. It's been a few months in the making, and we have all the players lined up for an 09 Vmax Drag event! After meeting Tim Nash (Vmax Guru) and talking to him about the importance of track performance vs dyno runs, and then talking to Lee, my favorite 09 Vmax pilot, I think we're gonna finally have some results for a modified Vmax by the weekend! That's right, Test & Tune night at Bradenton Drags strip Thursday night may set new records of Vmax performance with aftermarket parts. Special thanks to Tim for offering up this opportunity to time his modified Vmax. The only snafu along the way may be Tims health as he reported to me just minutes ago he's not feeling well, but hopes to be up to snuff by Race day. I placed a call to SmokinZx14 (Lee) a few minutes ago, and as usual my favorite pilot wants to "fly" this altered Vmax into the record books!
Tim had this to say
" I should be able to put 190rwhp under him. We turned a 187 here at the shop Sunday with an air filter in the bike. I'll pull out a few tricks and trailer the bike down there. I will e-mail you as it gets near.

I'm in.

Tim"

This may be a chance to test the only available aftermarket stuff from UFO. I'm hoping (not counting on it) to have an Xpipe on mine to test as well. Either way, I promise this will be HUGE and Lee will be busier than a one legged man at an ass kicking contest! Stay Tuned as hopefully the stars all align and we bring you this 09 Vmax Drag event!

Anybody want to see what Smokin can do with these 2 in the measured quarter mile this week?

Of course Tim also wants to get his drag racing feet wet and may make a pass too :cheer:

This is gonna be cool, I promise. We even have my low profile tire to throw on it, if need be

Lee's used to going fast, so of course he wanted to do this. Thanks to you SmokinZx14 Lee Appreciate having you to pilot this 660lb ROCKET!

I'll do pics & the videos, you take her to the 9's She's much fresher with only 1800 miles on her & a good clutch Equipped with Race ECU, Max Tuner Fuel module, UFO Cat Sass exhaust, and maybe some UFO velocity stacks

Hey Bad Max, you should put nitrous on that bad boy..............i'm sure it would help significantly on the back end of the track since you allready have the race ECU.

Max, anyone have an idea exactly how much power that shaft can handle? Rumors were that Yamaha had the Max up to 250hp before they tuned it back down for public consumption.

If true, then the question is: when are the aftermarket stretched and geared rearends coming out? Would be much simpler than converting to chain drive I would think.

Actually the original otodama motor at 1900cc & 12 to 1 compression made 337 HP, then they started detuning it. It's 1679cc now at 11.3 to 1. Here's a chart of Tims bike we dyno'd yesterday with air filter in. Figure he's at 220 HP at the crank and 30lbs lighter than my bike Mine made 173 w/stock filter & appears lean.

WOW..............the power REALLY seems to drop off after 9000 RPM's just like many have said..........i'll bet this bike would significantly benefit from head porting and bigger cams to help the top end.

But i'd still like to see what an exhaust and nitrous would yield.

Sticks, why the hell would you NEED to stretch the Max, its allready 67 inches i just cant see being any longer helping any since I doubt fighting wheelies is an issue on this bike...........if anything traction might be the limiting factor with more power and gearing.

Going to chain drive would cut significant weight and allow for easy gearing options and changes for the 1/4 mile.

17 HP more and 30 pounds lighter than Bobs Vmax This is going to be fun !!!

I guess the weight loss came from the Cats and stock mufflers ? I see by the dyno sheet why the Vmax likes to be short shifted ....

Yeah it looks like it falls off a cliff at like 9200....................you've built lots of motors Smokin do you think theres lots of potential in this engine and that head porting, cams and exhaust would really wake it up...................it seems to me like this motor NEEDS top end power and is just begging to be uncorked.

No i would not try to rase RPMs much ... It's a big tork motor so i would work on making more TQ and HP in the lower range .. Yes porting , cams would wake it up even more , but i would shoot for more power and HP across the hole RPM scale..Remember the bike weighs 680 pounds plus , it needs TQ to move it and HP to hold MPH in the wind ...

You got it bud, expect 25 more HP You'll be busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.. Hope you're up to it and everything falls into place for Thursday The BIG V4 isn't an inline, so RPM's aren't near the 14's. Probably takes some getting used to You can figure it Lee, we've got faith in you
