Bad Max...............Thanks for letting Smokin do a dragstrip test of the VMAX i've been looking for a comparison of the new Max VS Zx 14's and Busa;s by a consistent top notch rider for over a year now...............I've been a big VMAX fan since the 80's.
A couple questions do you think the throttle issue Smokin and victor alluded to is a physical or deliberate electronic limitation and if fixed or bypassed to you think launching at higher RPM would be beneficial...........also what RPM were you guys launching at, and were you tossing the clutch and going WOT immediately or sliding the clutch and being careful to maintain traction?
Bad Max is doing more to stimulate our economy than most people I know...............i'll bet he goes through a rear tire every 500 miles on that bad ass tire shedder!

Smokin like you stated i'm sure the Max would respond well to an exhaust and tune but since you and MANY others have said it seems somewhat flat on top how do you think it would respond to head porting and more aggressive cams?
Also like I asked Bad Max.........do you think the throttle issue you and victor alluded to is physical or a deliberate electronic limitation and if fixed or bypassed to you think launching at higher RPM would be beneficial...........also what RPM were you guys launching at, and were you tossing the clutch and going WOT immediately or sliding the clutch and being careful to maintain traction?

he is putting some serious miles and back tires on that bike, and getting appproximately 1000 miles plus or minus from a back tire, probably minus! why not it is a blast to ride.....

Bigdtd how does the torque compare to the ZX 14.................how is it to do burnout launches, can you just pop the clutch at like 6000 and leave 300 feet of rubber?

+1 track bike with heavy mods and street bike with light mods would be cool..............although personally i'd rather have a 14 and VMAX then if money was burning a hole in my pocket i'd get a 2nd 14 and do the street track thing as well.

Ok, the YCCT has to go. This is just Yamaha playing safe. The original Otodama V4 configuration was 1900cc, but made 337HP. BIG problems, bike wouldn't hook in any gear. Yamaha sized it down & detuned it using a lot of technology, to be very controlled, and consistent. They even lowered compression from 12.5 to 1 to 11.3 to 1. They needed to bring this bike into various countries at under 200hp (France gets 100). Take away the governors, limiters, YCCI, & YCCT and this thing will be a brute. Unfortunately, that's not nearly as easy as pulling some flies, changing a filter & adding a pipe. This thing has 3 processors all linked and error prone if you mess with any of it, hence the sale of the "Race ECU". Yamaha shamelessly going for our wallets yet again. I'll be changing a few things to improve performance, but it's pretty badass the way it comes from Yamaha. They did a LOT of research & made a LOT of changes to get their desired effect. They wanted us to have a pronounce "feel" of acceleration. By using computer controlled files, and a servo that lifts all 4 stacks of the injection intake, they accomplished their goal. Now to experiment & find out what to change & how much is the task at hand & will require your checkbook, patience and a lot of experimenting. After a trip to the track & playing around with it, I'm going to loose the airbox & pull the stacks. Will fabricate new short stacks that will use individual K&N style filters. That and a PCV & exhaust system will liven the behemoth up, but until those butterflies respond to your wrist & not some chip, the beast will still be a bitch to launch as hard as you want it to. The bike handles, stops, and accelerates really well. removing the limiters and using an Avon Venom 200/55/18 will take the top end to 170. That's about as far as you can go without a gear change (beyond difficult with shaft drive).
As far as tires go, it's only money and how much is it worth to be able to roll smoke completely around the rear wheel at will, for up to 160 ft? Its a showoff bike (if you want it to be) and a whole lot of fun.
New Yamaha Vmax= $17,000
240 wide rim & tire=$1000
Shop Rate 1 1/2 hrs=100
Leaving a stop anytime and smoking away from the crowd= Priceless
That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

300hp @10lbs with creep to 325hp
and unlike the vmax it still hooks on the street with a 180/55/17 power race rear tire @65 inches

Looking forward to the writeup of those mods.........................I hope you let Smokin test the bike before and after as well so we can gage what real world gains in ET and MPH those mods are worth..............also.with all the torque the VMAX has and a relatively flat top end I think it might respond well to head porting and more aggressive cams...................with 1679cc that brute should easily be capable of 220-240 horsepower.

I guess you still don't get it? You ride a 14. Pull into bike night & you're invisible. You blend in with a hundred others. Ride in and get off an 09 Vmax, and you won't get your helmet off before there's a crowd. UNIQUE is what Max is. I only wish you could ride one. Words fail the whole experience. It MUST be experienced and even then you don't understand why it makes you feel like it does..

yeap perfect vmax owner ...what makes you think you got the only one made .. and what makes you think i haven't rode or own a gen 1 and i've haven't rode a gen2 ..
as far as pulling into a bike nites ..well i leave that to you guys i ride my bikes .. and i won't own something just so i can stand over it and talk about and have to lie about its performance ... AT least a harley has a better resell value...
every Vmax owner i've rode with was at the back of the pack and explaining at every stop how much of a better and UNIQUE bike they had ...

Thanks Lee, What do you think of doing this to Max? Dump the airbox, and get rid of the servo & stacks for some home spun stacks with K&N filters ?

NO smokin he let you ring his bike's neck to show you it was better than a zx14 or busa at the track ...but it failed .. i hold nothing against him . except that he's a Vmax owner and they are worst than busa owners .. YOU KNOW HE TOLD ME I DON'T GET IT ...Has anybody ask what other bikes he's owned and rode yet .. ..this will make big ground with me if he's owned anything other than a Vmax...
