PC3 Problems - Help

I'm trying to load a map from the dynojet site onto my bike. Loaded the Power Commander Software, grabbed the map I wanted and tried to send - keep getting a messsage at the bottom of the screen which states "Error Sending Map to PC3" or something similar. It also gives me an error message if I try to grab a map off the PC3.

Any suggestions? Anyone seen this before? Thanks.

I'd start by verifying your USB cable. Transmission starts there, as well as a steady power source. Are you using the 9v battery hookup or system power?

Open the map you want to load. Select the entire thing (I believe if you click on the upper left cell it will highlight the entire map like a spreadsheet). Copy it and then open a map that doesn't have issues on your PC3. Paste the new map over the old one and save it as the new one.

I Think I found the problem. The Part Number for the Kawasaki ZX-14 PC3 USB is 224-411 (06-07). I just took a good look at the label on mine it gives the part number 224-410. I have no idea what bike this is for but it was advertised as a PC3 USB from a 2007 Kawasaki ZX-14. Wow!

Thats what I figured the problem was. Try what I said. If you need a different map to use as your template I'm sure that can be arranged.

Earlier when the 14 came out they were selling the PC from the ZX10 for use on the 14's.That is what you probably have,I have a 10 pc on my 14 and what you have to do to load a map, is paste a 14 map to a 10 map to load.

The 224-410 PC3 is for 06 ZX10. To change your existing MAP.
1 Down load a fresh stock 06 ZX10 MAP. Available on the PowerCommander site-ZX10 section
2 Down load the MAP you wish to install.
3 Bring up your new MAP and highlight it by "selecting all" .
4 Copy this desired MAP.
5 Now bring up the new (fresh ZX10) map.
6 Paste the desired MAP over top of the 06 ZX10 MAP.
7 You are now good to go and re-MAP.

Okay, I've tried everything.

1. Turn on Computer - Open PC3 file.
2. Plug USB cable into PC3.
3. Turn key to ON position with start switch in Run position - bike lights up.
4. Go to Dynojet.com and download '06 ZX-10R Map [All are 222-XXX maps]
5. Go into Map file and copy desired ZX-14 Map [All are 224-XXX maps]
6. Go back to ZX-10R Map and paste ZX-14 Map over ZX-10R Map
7. Select Send Map - and Get "Error Sending to Power Commander"

When I turn the key to the ON position the Power Commander lights up and the computer reads the Power Commander and displays its serial number on the screen. It gives the message "No Map Loaded" at the bottom of the screen so I know the PC3 is empty. The computer knows the Power Commander is there but can't send a map. Also, I can't perform the function of retrieval. I get the same thing "Error Retrieving From Power Commander" If I select "Get Map".

Is it necessary to use a certain USB cord or should any USB cord do? I find it strange that the computer knows the PC3 is there and can obtain its serial number and even tell there's no map on it but cannot send or retrieve anything to or from the unit. Am I missing something? Thanks.

So here we go. I go back to Dynojet and do some research. They have a function where you can reset the PC. So I attempt to do that. I get an error message that says I can't even reset! The message said "Error Reseting Power Commander 0x0006".

When I came out of the reset screen there was a new message for me beneath the serial number. It said plainly "Device Not Communicating." So there we have it - the device itself is not working. It's not communcating with the computer. I'm not sure what to do at this point as it would appear I'm out of options with this Power Commander unit.

Not all deals are truly deals when it comes to electronics. Live and learn. Lesson here: some things just have to be bought new.

Yeah, I'll give them a call tomorrow. I just can't think of what the tech guys are going to say when I explain it all to them. Just kinda' upset with the whole thing I guess.

I know, right? It's just frustrating when you're doing something that you know should take no time but you find yourself struggling with it.

When I got the "Device Not Communicating" message that was a hard pill to swallow. I wasn't ready for that. I wanted to have this all wrapped-up tonight but it ain't gonna' happen.

At any rate I appreciate everybody's help. Thanks.

I ran a zx10 PC3 for 2 years without issue, except I had to copy and paste any of the new zx14 maps into the cells, unless they were built specific for the modified PC3.

I always swapped maps with the 9v battery hooked up, or with the bike running.

BINGO!! That was the problem. When you turn the key to the ON position PC only initiates. Once you hear the hum of the fuel pump stop, the PC3 goes dark - no power. In that state it obviously can't communicate with the computer. My PC3 came off Ebay and did not include the 9V connector. When the bike is running and the rectifier is powering the PC3 it can communicate and maps can be loaded and retrieved.

I didn't know that. I thought the PC3 stayed powered up when the key was turned to the ON position. I thought it would run right off the battery.

That'll make it kind of tricky to zero your throttle position no?

That'll make it kinda' tricky to do anything! But when you don't know - you just don't know. And I just simply didn't know.

This was the first PC that I ever installed and tried to map myself. Usually I just drop the bike off with Billy P at BPRO Racing and tell him to call me when it's done. Since I put this thing together from wrecked to ressurrected I wanted to see it all the way through. I got to this little problem and that's when I turned to Bikeland for help.

On a good note, I did install it under the seat.
