Alienhead Fit

I am trying to fit my new alienhead headpipe and midpipe and had a few questions. Has anyone had problems with the headpipe touching the oil filter? I have adjusted and adjusted and it still keeps touching the oil filter. Also no matter how I adjust it, the right side of the headpipe is all the way in the spigots and the left side of the headpipe is about half way up and they wont move any further. I have tried wd40 to get everything to slide and adjust with no help. Granted I dont have the muffler yet because they havent arrived from mars, so I am having to install this until it arrives. Im not bashing the exhaust system at all but the fit is very poor in my opinion, and that is based on hundreds of systems I have installed across a myriad of bikes. If anyone has any tricks or knows something I dont I would love your input. Thanks

mine went on fairly easy, but i will say that fit isn't as good as some of the heavier exhausts. take some pics and send them to brock. maybe he can tell if something isn't right.

I don't mean to sound like a smart ass but are you sure you don't have the head pipes switched right on left and left on right? I just installed mine on Friday and it was a perfect fit. Also make sure you leave the spigots loose until you have the complete system installed.

Yeah, I have them on the right sides. I rechecked to make sure I had not made a mistake on my part. Also Im not sure if they would even line up with the head if they were on wrong. Thanks for the replies so far

I always build front to rear and tighten and adjust Rear to front. Wait until you have all of the system and see if that helps you. Never installed a Brock system, but have worked as Sales Manager/Tech Support at D&D back in the day. Installed dozens of different full systems over the years and this has helped as you can twist the mid pipe to move the head pipes some if the tail end is snug. May not apply on a Brocks, just a old trick we did when the 4 into 2 into 1 became " The Street System" and all the Sport Bikes had plastic to worry about under the exhaust.

Yeah, thats what I was hopin that after the muffler came in I would maybe be able to fit it a little better. Its just I cant get over all the places it hits. I hopin after it fits that the slip joints are not tilted enough to leak, even with the copper sealant in the tubes. Thanks again

Can you post up some pic's showing your installation?

When the header is installed correctly it should slide all the way onto the flange. At that point you should then have at least 1/2" clearance between the filter and header.

PS,
It can be a real hard time getting the mid pipe sliped in to the head pipes, and the tail pipe.
I had to really fight with it to get it on all the way...

See thats what I tried but the instructions said to put the head pipe and mid pipe together and on as a unit. Trying to get the midpipe on with the headpipe attached is just not gonna happen, tried that for over an hour. And when I got it all together, with it still on the filter the back of the midpipe was against the oil pan. Im hopin when the muffler gets here it will miracously go and fit without any problems, but Im not holdin my breath. Question, does the muzzy M14 fit the same way? Thanks again

I was told from Brock that the original Gen 3 pipes are designed to be a close fit to the oil filter. He said you only need about 1/16" of space of air to act as an insulator. You may have to work with the pipe like the others said to get that spacing.

May not apply but I will throw it out there, what oil filter are you using? When I installed my Gen 3, I was using the longer Pure One (don't remember the part number) and could not get any clearance between the oil filter and the header. i switched to the shorter Pure One (same length as the OEM filter) and had plenty of clearance.
