First time at the 8th mile last night!
I finally took my 14 to the local drag strip for the first time last night (Angleton TX, 1/8th mile drag strip). It was cool at about 50-60 degrees, a good 10+ mph head wind. My bike is a 08 14 with just a R-77 slip-on exhaust, and half worn set of Bt0-16's. My best time was 6.7222 @ 113.09. Traction was a big issue for me last night. I have a extra rear wheel, im thinking of putting a better tire on it for the drag strip. Would there be and problem with mixing a front and rear tire for the drag strip?

put a shinko 003 ultra soft on there and Hold the fuck on.
How much air pressure were you running?
What were your 60Ft and 330ft times?
what RPM were you launching at?
If you'll give us some info, we can probably give you some advice that with a little more seat time will have you screaming in no time.

40spi cold rear, 42 cold front. best 60Ft 1.8090 330Ft 4.5471 And I was launching at about 4000 revs. And I weigh in at 185lbs. Will a straping the front help with the wheeling? I see the brackets on ebay all the time...

Try a softer tire and run about 15 lbs of air in the rear. Stretching it will help alot. Try a 16/43 sprocket combo. I weigh 200 lbs and I can wind out 3rd to almost the redline in the 1/8 mile. Pulls pretty hard!

I have a good used Shinco Advance 005 200/50/zr17 tire that I came across by chance for free. Would that be a good drag tire for now? If so are you guys balancing your drag strip tires? I ask because the cost at the bike shops in my area are very high to have them mounted and balanced.. But the local auto tire shops can mount them for cheap but can not balance them..

Your stock tire will work just fine ...Let the PSI down to 28 ....Yes get a strap ...

No cutting required, strictly a bolt on affair. The strap on your set up should be worth .3 or better off your ET. Best bang for the buck IMHO.

buy yourself a set of lowering links, a strap bracket, and a strap from schnitz. By strapping the front end, it makes the fors rigid which keeps them from pushing you into a huge wheelie. My track has shitty air, but with a 16t front sprocket, lowering bones, a strap, and flies removed I was running consistant 6.40-6.43 with 60fts from 1.54-1.59. That should have been good for low 6's closer to sea level.
Smokin's bike with bones, a strap, 17/40 gearing, a smeg (no PC3) and a TRE went 6.0's last week. That's about as good as of a rider as you can ask for on that bike.

From there you can tweak your bike to fit you better. I like a 16t front sprocket because it keeps me from having to shift 20-30 yds before the finish line in the 1/8th. I also start out at around 19-20 PSI and work from there. a stock wheelbase bike should be able to hook with just about any tire on a decent track. Mine worked like a charm even with my $89 tomahawk T-3.

No need for a ultrasoft shinko at stock wheelbase. Like smokin said just lower psi to 20 to 25 and try it, if it still spins lower it to 15 psi.

My 3rd time a the track with the 14 I went 6.53 @ 115.5 in the 1/8th. Just strapped, rear untouched and a 16t front sprocket. I'm also not too light at 230lbs in all gear.
I've only managed to do that once so far. Consistancy defines the better riders.

Well ill got some straps off ebay, and will be back at the track this friday. Lets see how much better I can do.. What would a good launch RPM be with the straps?? 4000ish?

4800-5200 with no flies was good for 1.58-1.60's with stock gearing for me. just be careful not to wheelie very high with the straps or your balls will pop out of your ass.

Hey, don't laugh too much. That guy is only at about 10:00, whereas my first trip at the1/8 mile was at least an 11:30!!! I thought launch at 3500 RPM meant hold the throttle at that position, then let out the clutch all at once on the last yellow light.

It came down hard enough to dent the pipes,but that saved the oil pan and i still recovered enough to run a low 10 second pass.
Got off on the return road and shut it down to check the oil pan.....yeah my nuts hurt a while from that pass.
