Cheaper synthetic oil/filter

I'm doing my first course of full synthetic oil and the Ninja seems to like it a lot. The legendary Kawasaki Klunk is now a smart CLACK. Shifting is smooth and I noticed an instant softening of the engine noise once the new oil circulated. I wish I would have paid more attention to how the bike sounded before dumping that winter storage crap out.

I used Repsol Moto 4T Racing oil 10W-40 and it cost an arm & a leg at the dealership. Can I get the same performance from a cheaper synthetic oil? I see Mobil 1 Racing oil at the auto supply for a lot less. Also, is there a cheaper but as good or better filter that I could pick up at the auto supply?

At the auto stores, you can get mobil 1 4t racing syn for a little under $10 a quart. Good stuff, but I've been running Shell Rotella T 5w-40 synthetic and it's great stuff. Costs $20 for a gallon at walmart, and it doesn't have the friction modifiers in it that can make motorcycle wet clutches slip. It's a great oil because it has a high nickle content which engines love (but if you're still running you cats, don't use rotella).

ZXBob recommended Red LIne 10W-40 and I tried it last summer.

I've never before experienced such a huge difference from an oil change-
the bike was much smoother!

The oil before it in my bike was the Rotella T.

Redline is hard to find local. Do have a link for a site and which Redline ?

I use Redline products in my ZF 6 speed and rear end gears in my Vette.

One hour drive to purchase Redline off the shelf.

Thanks

Try redlines web site. Theres dealers that ship.
That reminds Me I was going to try Amsoil after reading their web site.
They make a 4 stroke oil for bikes.

Took apart a Kawi filter after break in. They are junk. K&N, Wix. just about anything other than that POS.

I luv AMSOIL myself
Bike runs smoother, shift better, and clutch is smoother too...

Help me out here. My bike is still stock. Why should I not run Rotella? Got me worried. Have 2500 miles on the Rotella at the moment.

I got over 30,000 miles on Rotella T synthetic. What are you worried about? He was talking about the additive package effecting your catalysts. If you have aftermarket pipes you have no worries mate.

Ya, if you like your cats, spare them the zinc that is in rotella t. Zinc will eat up your cats.

I hate my cats but I would like to always have the option of returning the bike to stock after modding.

I still have all 5 of my Kaw filters all numbered in a row. Have not cut open #1 to look yet. I did see shearings in the first oil change and perhaps the second, also. That's cool though - everyone has that. Should be some in the filter too - I hope.

Thanks for responses everyone.

^^Don't know quite yet. Wouldn't mind meeting a girl who likes to ride! LOL

Lots of people will find this totally bizzar but I am still living with my wife and I plan to stick around until June. I like being around the two kids and I know that is going to change a little bit soon. Even weirder, I plan to rent an apartment on the corner 1/2 block away. I know it will work well for the kids and I know I'm going to be doing lots of home repairs for the X. I imagine things will just get stranger when/if new relationships develop but I can deal with some pretty unconventional ways of life. I think the kids will be fine as long as the grownups don't fight. The X and I are doing as well as can be expected considering all the stress. No more fighting, lots of anxiety.

I am waiting to hear about new job (teaching). I think I'm hired - pass the drug test and you're in MPS - LOL. It's not in my area of certification but I can handle it. Plan to get a second bike (busa, liter???) and dreaming of building something totally NOT street friendly. Keeping the 14 as drag bike and main riding bike. Plan to hit drag strip this summer........That is if I'm not too broke. LOL.

Thanks for asking. Talk to you later.
