HID question - I did not want to hijack another person's thread

I was seriously considering doing an HID upgrade and wanted to know if anyone had any opinions on it? The website I was looking on said they sold three different brands "Vision X", "Well-Done", and "McCulloch". Are these any good? How much money should I expect to pay total for a kit? And did I want to get bulbs with 6000k or 8000k temps for the best light and look?

Here is one of the sites I was looking on:
http://f-sane.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8_17_4&products_id=77&zenid=412bf2bc18c0c6d80a879afd7e3d5c9a

I was also thinking of doing some Halo's. I freaking LOVE the look of those things!

Just a heads up. For what it's worth I did the halo's and I now regret it. They were supposed to red, but ended up looking "light red". lol. The amount of work involved kinda outweighed the reward in my opinion. If you do decide to get them let me know. I wrote up a step by step of the process to make it easier for the next guy. Might be able to save you a busted tab or something.

Also, if you are looking for HID I have a new in box set of them for the low beams that I would swing a deal for you. You'd have to wait a few weeks for me to get home from this job.

They are the 6000k H11 (lo-beam) 55w digital ballasts.

I bought my HIDS from http://www.starrotors.com/bulbs/ , so far so good in all types of weather, they have lit up the darkest roads which have been appreciated on deer infested road in the middle of the night. Cars also move out of your way quicker with all of the light coming up on them.
I use 12000 on the low beam and 6000 on the high beam. I paid a little over 200 for both sets.
I also used relays and switches.
When purchasing the Halo's make sure they have a protective ring over the CCFL tube, they are very fragile.

I am definitely going to do the HID's but I am going to skip the Halo's. Evilsports is like the 5th person to tell me that they were a complete pain in the ass and I just don't need that kind of drama. Can you send me a picture of your HID's though? I would like to know what the 12000k's look like.
Evilsports: PM me when you get in so we can talk. It is going to be a while before I can afford to do any more upgrades to her but keep me in mind if you have not sold them already.

PM's are not working. If you want them there yours. Sitting on a shelf in my garage at home. Send me $100 and cover shipping once I send them. Like I said though I won't be home from work for a few more weeks. Wife is on vacation for another week, but I could get her to ship them once she returns if you want them sooner. I'm in no big hurry to get rid of them so whenever works for you. They can sit on my shelf awhile longer. Email me if you like.

Wow! The color looks brighter than I expected. May I ask what made you do 6000k in the brights and not 12000k throughout?

Just in case, I've been in the land of the lost a few times and wanted a brighter light for those situations.

Now that you've done it already, would you do it again? I mean, I heard that even the 12000k's were brighter than regular halogen... I was thinking having them all 12000k would look killer.

I would do it again, but I also ride in the rain been caught in the snow a few times and average 20,000 miles a year. It does put out more light than stock but its also a softer light in my opinion. There has only been a few times that I have run both high and low beam, but when both are lit the 6000K stands out more.

Great info, man, thanks. I don't want to put you out, or anything, but is there any way you can snap a pic of your set up with the brights engaged? I'd really like to see it. Also, you can swap the different color bulbs at will, right? If I decide to go with 8000k down the line will I need to switch out the entire assembly?

You would only have to change the bulbs.

Okay, that looks real nice and I think I am going to duplicate what you've done but use 8000k in my high beams instead of the 6000k. The video was great, and those lows really throw out a lot of light. Thanks again for all your help.

Um... one last question then I'll leave you alone. What do having the relays and switches do for you? I take it they cost extra?

The HID's pull most of their power during startup, so I used 10 gauge wire from the battery to the relay to make sure they had all the power they needed. The switches allow me to turn the highs and lows on and off independently. I run my High beams alone in the daytime and lows at night and I can have both off with the bike running if I desire.
The relays are about 4 or 5 dollars at Radio Shack and another $20 for switches, wire and Female crimp connectors.
