Tank Protector

I need some advice. I'm a new 14 owner. I noticed some scuffing from my jacket on either side of the tank protector the dealer installed. It's a fairly narrow protector. Two questions:

1. Can I remove the existing tank protector and how?

2. Any suggestions on a quality tank protector designed for a 14 tank that's wider?

It'll probably just peel off. If it's stubborn heat it up in the sun or with a hair dryer. Don't know of a wider protector except maybe a tank bra.

I have a Lockhart Phillips half tank bra and the stitching around the inside edge etched a slight pattern into the paint after 100 miles. The bungy that stretches the bra forward also left a dotted line across the front tip of the tank. I plan to try the bra again but this time I am going to mask the tank under the stitching with painters tape and place a strip of clear contact paper under the bungy where it touches the tank.

I removed the above mentioned scratches as well as the whitish haze of scuffs caused by my jacket. I used Turtle Wax Ice Liquid Claybar. It leaves behind a super slight swirl but it elimenates the more severe swirls and slight scratches caused by using the bike. The swirls caused by the liquid claybar seem to fill in and disappear for the most part after Ice paste Polish is used.

I would enjoy your new paint for a year and then take restoration measures. No sense in fixing a 99% perfect paint job. The bottom of the lower rear fairing is a good piece to test products on.

You could try that plastic film that is sold in sepparate pieces to fit all body panels and exposed parts of frame. Sorry, I can't remember what it's called. Maybe someone will chime in. That would seem to be the only way to prevent minor scratching and swirls.

The wind screen seems to scratch easier than the painted surfaces. I can't figure it out - the face shield on my helmet which I wash as often as my bike looks like new but my wind screen was all swirly....but I fixed it now.

Tank Protector

Thanks everyone. I'll try the hair dryer approach. Ordered a Rascal Graphics tank protector today specifically for a 14. Looks like it will do the job.

Nice! I had to replace my tank and lost my tank girl. I like the black and blue version myself. I might order it for the new season.
