Protective coat for nonpainted parts

Is Armour All good stuff for non painted plastic pieces like the side panels with the knurled surface and the controls by the hand grips?

Also, does anyone know of a good, non-slick product to clean the seat a/o give UV protection?

Sorry if I posted this a short time ago and lost track of it. I can't remember. Been wondering about it for a while.

I like pledge personally
Honda sells basically the same thing as a detailer, for more money.
Pledge will leave a nice shine without attracting dust like armor all.

Thanks, dub.

I think I did post this a while back or maybe on the other forum. Pledge rings a bell.

pledge won't leave stubborn streaks like armor all, and if you buff lighlty with pledge over the waxed paint, it leaves a deep wet look.

For nuts and screws you can use clear nail polish to keep it from rusting.

This is the fist time I hear about Pledge. OK! Good to know
Just one detail, how does it do in the sun? I personally do not use Armor All, as it is known to actually damage (read crackle) variety of surfaces, rubber, paint, vinyl, etc., if exposed to sun for long periods, which rather very common here in So.Cal.

I use 409 to clean the grease and gunk off my tires then follow-up with WD-40 for the protection.

ditto on pledge... though we did try (and really like) the new meguiars line of bike stuff... works a bit better than pledge... one of them (think it's quick detailer... will have to run out to garage to double check) smells really good... kinda like bubble gum almost.

Any particular Pledge, plain, with lemon scent or just use no additions?

And only use Pledge on non-painted stuff like the black plastics?

For $6 We can get ourselves a bottle of real automotive clearcoat with a brush in the cap. That's the the way those of us without a ladyfriend have to do it. I can't really see myself looking for nail polish in the makeup ayle. LOL Great suggestion though. That, or find a color that matches your paint.

Dubious is recomending Pledge for uncoated plastics and painted plastics that have been waxed. I don't know what scent he prefers.

Ice paste polish also has that smell. I used it on all my painted plastics. It leaves your bike looking and smelling like new.

Original Bike Spirits spray cleaner and polish has a nice sort of tropical scent. I enjoy the pleasent aroma of Maxim chain wax as well. I'd almost bet those companies are putting fragrance into their products.

I use lemon pledge LOL
I have used the meguirs on my truck, but have not used it on plastic...
Does it come off bare plastic, or leave the nasty white residue that bakes in like other waxes?

Another awesome product for waxing is dry washn guard... they claim it encloses dirt particles and dust with the polymer which lubes the dust enough it won't scratch, and thats the primary purpose... waterless washing/ waxing in one... works pretty good if you are reasonable about how dirty a vehicle can be before needing water.
Works good for the highway rides as the bike doesn't get too dirty except for dust and bugs... all which come off nicely once the product emulsifies the bugs and dust (2-3 min soak), leaves no scratches and no web buffing marks if you use a good clean terry towel.
Black shows all imperfections, considering some of the shit my bike has seen due to poor road conditions where I used to live, it looks real good for a bike with 10,000 street and highway all weather miles.

I LIKE that!!!

only exception I've had to that was a Vette & a 69 Z-28.

Washing is a redundant past time in western Wa. this time of year.
Just looked at a bike near me for a cat that lives over in Seattle.
07 zx10 2400 miles. Never seen rain. 2' chicken strips on back tire.
Told him BUY IT!!
My 06 has 18k plus and I've been hurt or out of state 8 months.
Gotta ride in rain here. Detailing starts in 2 months.
Gonna revisit this thread then.

I use Plexus:

http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/plexus.html

for after my day to day washes. Once a week or so I give it a going over with Turtle Wax "Ice" liquid wax.

http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,1,1

Does a nice job on the plastics and windshield. The bugs really fall right off for the next few days. I use it on my lid now too because the bugs come off so easy.

I'm with dubious, been using Lemon Pledge on my bikes for ever. Easy to use & no white crap in the cracks. It even helps keep bugs from sticking. Just have to polish it real well to eliminate streaking. Never tried the other flavors cause lemon works so well.

Thanks for Plexus tip. I'll look for it. Hope it's available in stores.

I have used Ice liquid claybar, Ice liquid spray polish & Ice paste polish. All work excellent. The liquid claybar is a miracle worker for removing swirls and minor scratches but don't use it until the bike is a year or more old. It removes swirls but it actually creates them as well. Superfine, almost impercaptable swirls, but swirls, nonetheless. They disappear once the piece is polished with Ice paste polish but why bother until the bike really needs it? Ride one season, store the bike with plastics off and do the liquid claybar/polish indoors. Put 'em back on and ride in Spring. That's what I did.
