It isnt extreamly hot where I live but I have never had trouble with the bike around town on hot days. I see no need to add an extra fan on my bike personally.

Not exactly so - my 06 had 20k KM's and ran cool all the time, but my 08 runs hot all the time. For some reason, these bikes are not consistent when it comes to heat management.

I might have wanted a 2nd fan when my pretty Red was brand new cause she ran way too hot back then! But not now , even prolonged idling the fan cycles on and off and keeps her cool just fine. Seems not all 14's are created equal in the heat department. The Blue one i ride likes to run hot but never over heats...

I hate the zx-14 so that's why I own zx-14.com sure.. that makes a fuck of a lot of sense.

Damn this site is starting to look like lasbausa.org.No Thin Skin Allowed. I am trying to learn about up grades on my ZX-14 not see the finger being thrown around. Fish that Busa site has rubbed off on you. If you disagree, fix the PM and you two go at it.

I actually thought it was a pretty polite response to him...
I mean, come on... log in to ZX-14.com and tell everyone the owner of the site has hated the bike since day one? He got off easy...
I'd like to see him log in to a corvette forum, or a helicopter forum, or pick any forum and say the same thing to their respective owners and see how they react !
this isn't rocket science!
(fyi his "i'm done" topic has been moved to the smackhouse where it can morph into whatever it needs to)

My bike handled texas to san diego in late june with temps in the 125+ degree range and never got above 1 bar from the top (stop and go included). Definitely sounds like some bikes just run hotter than others.

He did get off easy compaired to that Busa site...:-) but hey Smokin is Not DP...you know what I am talking about.I will Be glad when the PM is fixed as I would have PM this and another comment I made about what and how you post to the members. As you do ride a fine line as you are not just a member here and what You post reflects every thing the site is.
Information on our ZX-14. :-) I hope this site does Not turn into a "Lets bait Someone and
see if I can Piss them off site"
I read your Long term article and I did not think you were out to slam the ZX-14 on purpose
but I have seen a Busa get Hot here in Texas too.

We had it with two bikes in SoCal, and one in the interior of BC/ Canada (the "Okanagan" which is actually a desert... same temps as in California - high 90's, low 100's)... heck steve.. your fishing me back into this topic!
Regardless... it would be great to see this addressed in a new model... really IMHO this discussion should never need to take place because this should have been engineered out of the bike. No one should be able to post up and say "that happened to me too" ... not even one member... just my 2$ werth.
LAB3 ... this wont degenerate into anything near the style of the other site... don't worry...
I hear ya, but I have little / no control over the PMs.. freek is swamped with real/paying work so it's on the back burner...
anyways... it's good to have this topic out in the open... if it does nothing for the majority, that's fine, but if it helps the few members that could get stuck from the heat, then it's served its purpose. An ounce of prevention on this bike can really help, and since I hate delays and enjoy riding, it's a bit of piece of mind well spent.

Here in the DFW area the Texas heat will be in the 100 plus for weeks during the summer and if you have driven in stop and go traffic going to work in Dallas it takes 90 minutes of stop and go traffic. Does Florida get this Hot for several months ina row during summer?
Before I got my ZX-14 several months ago I saw a New ZX-14 on the side of the road with all the cooliant under it, and same for a Busa here and my Corvette does not like this Hot weather after a hour and a half on moving parking lot trying to get home from work. High compression engine's need more cooling IMO. I will Never ride my ZX in work traffic it's not worth the risk. My 1998 ZX9R got hot here one summer. Welcome to Hot Ass Texas.

It was not this thread but Fish's experience on the ZX-14 article he wrote. That got me to looking for a second fan.

Wow .... what a great thread. (and here's help with the link)
My experence with the 14 is that "mine" has never overheated ..... ever !
Prior to the turbo I had done the ZX-10 fender. I spent many miles on the 405 in
traffic or going down PCH on the weekends and there was allways plenty of traffic.
Never a heating issue with my bike.
When I did my turbo kit, I adapted a a second fan of a CBR 600 to handle any
possibility of a heating issue due to the turbo .... still no problem. I understand
what Fish is saying about Bikeland test, but living here in So. Cal and my riding
on some pretty hot summer days has never been an issue for me.

The 14 has been out for four years now. Apparently they are no longer the overheating, oil guzzling bikes that you tested, Fish.
Maybe a "long term" report on a pre-production bike doesn't show the full picture...

Please don't speak for other areas. I'm in Phoenix riding in 115 degrees. Only experienced over heating in very heavy backed up traffic traffic.
Why did Kawi feel it necessary to put the sencond fan on the Concours? Same displacement/ radiator, not as much power but more cooling. Hmmmmm.

Ok, so some bikes have overheated and spewed coolant and others have not.
Have Kawasaki changed anything since 2006 that would affect this? The catalytic converter for example.
I think the bikes are simply marginal on temperature control, some overheat, some don't. I know mine had it's fan on every time I was in traffic or in town and it rarely gets above 70 degrees here in summer. That was right up until I changed the exhaust system then it was fine.
It's possible that by including the additional components, like on the ZX-12, to leave the fan running after switching off they would have had lots of dead batteries. Did they take a gamble?
