Rear wheel weight, 36lbs!

Weighed the complete rear wheel with Shinko tire mounted, sprocket, and brake disc from a hanging scale. Would never have guessed that much..

yup, the shinko is approx 5 lbs heavier than a michelin, 4 lbs heavier than the stock tire if I recall right.

The stock wheels are HEAVY.
part of the reason the bike is so stable too though.

Shane posted up his findings in his thread.

I really need to get that table of contents done; it is hard searching through all the pages (even for me).

Yeah, the stock 14 wheels are boat anchors, for sure. And the Shinko is pretty darn heavy too. The 12R wheel is a direct swap and lighter. And you'll save weight with almost anything but a Shinko...

Does the shinko have that much more rubber? I am thinking trying to figure out where all the extra weight come from in a shinko...

So would 1.5 lb make a difference in 1/4mile times?

If that's all you change, I'd say no. But with a lighter tire and sprocket you could be looking at 6 lbs. difference on the rear wheel. That is probably a measurable change.

what are all the OE wheels that have been tried, and what mods required to make them fit? a sticky would be good with this info.
