Jack point on oil pan
I picked up a 2 1/4 ton floor jack to lift the front of my 14 while the back is lifted with a Hindle pivot stand. Is it safe to lift anywhere under the stock oil pan with my new floor jack?(obviously not on the drain plug or drain plug protector)
Do you think it would be advisable to leave the bike stored on the pivot stand with a jackstand under the oil pan?

There is no problem with this practice if you divide the weight eveny across the entire pan. I use this Craftsman jack with additional soft wood planks on top of it to support the pan:

rook, whats wrong with motorcycle race stands, you prefer car stands for your bike? the bike on the right has CHEAP stands and they work well.

I wouldnt put the jack anywhere near the drain plug or protector. I have seen first hand what too much pressure at that point will do and it aint good

+1 I would Never raise to the frame inder the oil pan. Seen it done with wood blocks
but you are asking for a cracked pan. Be carefull.

U can get a front stand for arounf $60, VERY wise investment!

I used a jack like that when I first got the bike. It won't hurt anything, but it is a very bad balance. It could be knocked off that stand with a few lbs force. If you don't have stock cans it won't work anyway - not enough rear weight to balance with.

Like the others have stated that's not the best choice of tools, But it can be done with care.
Use a rear bike stand then jack the front on pan using a board to distribute the weight.
Be careful and go slow , checking to make sure everything is stable before you get too high.

Thanks, all. I couldn't resist the buy on the floor jack. I got it and two jackstands for 40 dollars even. Looks like I will be getting a front stand at some point after all. Until then, I may use the floor jack if I need to lift it an inch or so. The bike almost seems to be balanced evenly, front & back when on the pivot stand. I'm pretty sure I could lift the front wheel off the floor by hand when the back is up. Still, I'll be careful about lifting on the pan.
