rpms
Every so often I see a post about the rpm shift point. Lee, I think you recently said somewhere that shifting at 11,2 was really shifting at 10,7 or so. My question is; Johnny C told me to shift at 10,7-10,8 because my power dropped dramatically after that. My light is set at 10,7. Should I have it set at 11,2?

yes, run it to rdline without getting on the limiter. that is roughly 10,600rpm. what he's seeing on the dyno is actual rpm since he's tapped into a coil wire.

You will go slower shifting at 10700 indicated...unless there is something wrong with your bike.
My understanding this that the true rpm limiter on the 14 is at least 10800. If you look at most of the dyno pulls, they read around 11k actual.
Perhaps Johnny is not aware of how optomistic the 14 tachometer is.

I think you are probably right. My buddy who has ridden my bike has said he just takes it to redline. I will be changing the shift light rpms tonight.

I shift mine around 11200-11300 indicated.
Keep in mind the delay...when you see the light you are going to be a little slower shifting than say an air shifter (unless you have one!). So don't set the light right near where the limiter kicks.

I also suggest you take the bike out and hold it open and see what the tach says when the limiter kicks in. Safely of course...

I'll do that the next time I'm on the track. Was going to go tonight, but it's supposed to be wet. Last Wednesday, I got beat off the line by another 14, stretched, lowered, and much lighter rider. I actually started reeling him in in 2nd; I was so shocked watching him get closer that I forgot to shift. Of course the engine started revving down and I immediately shifted. Didn't notice where the tach was at, though. I was too busy calling myself an effing 'tard under the helmet. LOL

I don't even use my shift light, to be honest....
It's easy to hit the limiter when you are chasing another bike!

Since we're sort of on the same topic, what would happen if I ran my 14 to to the rev limiter? I know the ECU will cause the throttle to cut intermitantly so that the engine will not rev any higher but does hitting the rev limiter send the bike into limp mode like hitting the speed limiter would?

Nope no limp mode just smacks it off the limiter
