8's in the quarter with stock wheelbase?
Hi guys
I currently have a ZX12R and am trading shortly on a ZX14 with the intention of doing some drag racing.
The numbers I've been reading from people are very hit-and-miss with some guys running mid-high 10's on bikes with a few basic mods to guys running mid-high nines on completely stock bikes and mid-low nines on completely stock bikes that are strapped/lowered and standard wheelbase.
Along with this there's a lot of trash talk on the internet and a lot of people with big egos, so I'm not really sure what to expect...! I am fairly confident with my abilities that I'll be able to crack into the 9's on a completely stock bike.
My aim though is to get into the 8's on the stock wheelbase with a road tyre, of course I'd need to strap the front and lower the rear but I'm not interested in making any permanent changes to the bike's rideability on the road as I enjoy all aspects of riding.
If anyone has any info on other guys that have done this, or gone very close, I would be interested to read up on them or get in touch. Out of interest I am about 200lbs in full leathers & helmet.

I saw it done a couple weeks ago but the rider was only about 140lbs suited and he was a pro rider on a ss prepped bike.

i run 6.40 on a stock wheelbase stock piped 07 with no flies, 16t front sprocket, strapped and lowered on the 2nd hole on my bones. i weigh 185ish in shorts, and could still use some improvement on my launch. high 1.5's in the 60ft. my da is 4000+ so at sea level i should run a little faster. i've never run 1/4 mile so i can't tell you what that would equate to. i believe that chip ellis went 9.02 on brocks stock wheelbase diary bike with bolt ons and no spray. hope that that helps a little. if you're ever in so. cal let me know and i'll take you to the track.

I have gone 9.18 on my 06 zx14 with just a pipe p/c, strapped , stock tire, lowered on pump gas, stock gears and stock air filter .... I only weigh 150 race ready ... I only tried it a few times with this set up , i'm sure with seat time and a few more tricks ( race fuel , gears ) I could have got a bit lower ET ... There are a few more guys out there that have done the same or better than i did ... At 200 pounds i think you would need a little spray or a non stock motor , I could be wrong ......Here is the ticket , sorry it's a bit fuzzy but you get the idea.

8's at 200 lbs is gonna be a helluva feat. The bike would have to be slammed, geared, drop seat, and a whole fuggin lot of seat time.

I am 205-210lbs unsuited and made over 140 passes at stock length and the best I could do is in my sig. I have been on bikes since I was a kid, so Id say Im better than average and I didnt even come close. Id say it aint going to happen at 200lbs, but prove me wrong
Shit Im still trying to hit 8's at 63" which isnt easy either lol.

At 200 lbs. you will need a power adder and a really good clutch hand.

Thanks for your replies!
Anyway I'm in Australia and we use kilograms not pounds. I'm 80kg fully suited which I just worked out is 176lbs. I'm in the process of getting a bit fitter so I expect I'll be down to about 77kg fully geared which is 170lbs at race weight.
Looks like the best way to go is:
Exhaust/filter/power commander
Strapped front
Lowered rear
Lots of practice
If I get stuck I may look at extending a very small amount but that's an absolute last resort.
I definitely wouldn't run a spray of gas, here in Oz it's considered cheating on a 'streeter'.
Does the 14 need any reliability work regarding oiling system, clutch or other aspects? Reliability is an important thing to me.
As for gearing with stock wheelbase and my low weight I'm not sure if it's worth dropping a tooth in the front as it will probably just translate into more time with the wheel up. Thoughts?

Stock clutch will hold up fine. The clutch is a lot more sturdy than the one in the 12R.
