OIL IN MY AIRBOX!!!!

This is a pic i took while removing my secondary throttle plates.

There is a puddle of oil in the bottom left of the picture and oil every where else in the airbox.

I am the second owner of this bike, and the bike runs great, and the airfilter is stock, so that rules out over oil-ing the air filter.

i just hope that this is normal OR that the moron changed his own oil and had the bike leaning on the kickstand when he filled the oil to the full line of the sight glass. If thats the case all is good now cause i changed the oil as soon as i got it.

HELP! I won't be able to sleep at night. But like i said the bike runs great.

Yup they do that when over filled ...None of the zx14s i have or worked on have done that but they were never over filled either ..

P/S don't oil the stock air filter , it's just a paper filter and no oil is needed..

I have heard of this oiling in the air box before on some forums. An over filled crankcase could have some foamed up oil find it's way up the crankcase breather tube into the air box.

I had the same sort of scare when I removed flies. Each plate had a drip of oil that collected on the bottom edge. Oil was never overfull. Had nothing in my catch bottle except for a black streak on the side. Nothing there to drain.

Where is that by the way? I didn't see anything in the "engine lubrication system" section in the owners mannual i downloaded.

I do remember brock saying how he had to drain it a few times but i forgot about it until now

I run mine 3/4 up the sight glass and over 7000 rpm in 6th gear for hours in a day sometimes...

^^There are two small inverted bottles with a hose running to each down there. The airbox bottle is the one with the stopper on the bottom.

hey guys! My 06 zx14 i bought in 06 had a welding error. The weld allowed a needle head sized hole to exist. Oil would drip out the little hole in the weld. Kawi warrantied it, and now theres no more oil. Go to your dealer. It is a common thing, as is the head leaking.

Rock on guys!

wait a minute ... wait kind of a weld pinhole in the frame would let oil into the airbox? from where?

I'm confused.. the airbox on the 14 is hardly airtight...

see this topic for other issues...

Yup or overfill. I did same. Noticed with a full measured change it would be there after track days.

Hell no i'm not thrashing it. I just got it 3 weeks ago and i've only had 2 runs down the track.

But i guess i'm not to worried about it, cause the oil level hasn't changed since i did the oil change, and it runs SOOOOO good with those secondaries removed

I haven't had a chance to check the overflow bottle yet so i will check it out and re-post

Yep the 12...and to a lesser degree the 14, seem to have some issues with being filled clear up and ran at higher rpms....they like to push a little oil into the airbox. Muzzy and a couple other shops actually claimed that they gained hp on the 12 with lower oil levels.....less crankcase pressures and way less parasetic drag on the crank. On the 12 the issue was more the sight glass set-up......it read lower than the true oil level, so unless you took plenty of time to let the oil settle, you ended up overfilling it even tho the sight glass showed you were fine. The fix I found for my 14 was to run the oil half full on the sight glass....no more blowby, and my valve cover leak went down to almost nothing. The 14 seems to build up a little too much positive crankcase pressure when she's chock full
I'm in the process of fixing the cover leak right....but the change in the leak compared to the oil level was interesting

Where is this pinhole at?

Is it in the airbox?
