Didn't mean to sound edgy Old Guy, sorry if I came across that way. Just to clear up some things for some of the newer guys, there was quite a bit of debate about whether to pull the flies or not in the 08s since they opened earlier than the 06-07's. I was apprehensive as well because of this. JC said let's pull'em, map it, and see if you like it, if you don't, I'll put'em back in. Well....absolutely NO doubt whatsoever that I like the bike better with them out. Instant power anywhere. On the drag strip where I thought it wouldn't matter as much, it did. The power was much more controllable, linear, and consistent. Much easier to launch. Probably 99% of those on this site could never get enough power throughout the rpm curve. I do think, however, that there are some that ride the 14 much tamer. They like the "more civilized" feel before the secondaries open for normal everyday riding, and the better gas mileage as well. Why would these type of peeps by a 14? Beats me. LOL!

Remove the flies!!! I spoke with Rickey Gadson at the Cleveland Bike show and he stated that you should remove the flies on the 06-07, it makes a world of difference.

To feel the bike 'without flies'... start it up cold... before the high idle goes off, take it out and 'get on it'. You will feel what it is like. Before it 'warms up, it "seems" that the secondary plates are not closed.
The bike is a lot better to ride (06-07) with flies out. I rode it stock flies out for a week or so before the mods and it was a whole new experience. As far as developing a system to open them up... it has been tried by several on here and it didn't work out. One guy spent 3 to 4 months and he was an electronics guy... and he tried everything. There are numerous threads that cover the whole thing.
The bike feels like it should with flies out or I would not have put them back in. I like things to run 'right'. It was absolutely the best mod I have done. As far as 'touring'... I think it makes sense to have them out for that also because if you go to pass, you just have to turn your throttle hand a bit... the torque is right there. Without it the bike was 'flat'. Also, with two up, in curves (cornering) with the plates in it seemed to be touchy at certain lower rpms. I believe it has been proven by everyone that did the mod as well as the fact that the 08-09 opens earlier. They obviously did it for a reason. It seems that they were trying to save on liability by 'slowing' the bike's lower power. Lastly, the TRE is an option some have taken... but for me, I felt that for free I could get the flies out performance and still keep my gear indicator and nuetral light to work as opposed to paying money for 'same' effect and losing said indicators. That is my opinion... I don't race so I have no idea about 1/4 mile etc...that was covered by the drag racers on many a thread.

Removing flies has got to be the best mod short of a turbo.........
It does not turn into some unridable monster......simply gives it room to breath at lower RPMs in the bottom gears for smoothness and less shifting.
You can even skip the PC, but it will be much better to add it and map - the throttle points will be VERY important - set them properly.

I think that the 16t front sprocket can rival most mods as well.

quote: Pull flies step one then regear step 2.
Both at the same time is a very nice step up in bottom end power.
Never crossed my mind to put flies back.

No flies and 16/43 proved to be perfect for me. I didn't mind the loss of max speed or the higher revs since I don't tour.

I removed my secondary flies today and uploaded the map provided by dynojet and.
It was EASY, CHEAP, and EFFECTIVE.

I'm suprised no one mentioned Ivan's 006 TRE for flies out, ran with dynojet map & always had huge amount of popping/backfire. With the TRE it allows a small amount of fuel to flow with throttle off & eliminated popping & really smoothed on/off throttle transitions especially at lower revs. Great improvement! And no way would I consider putting flies back in, power everywhere without them.

I use my flies as a windchime....the only way I would put them back in is if I sold the bike to a 90 year old grandmother......
I thought my bike was quicker without the flies.....and it was quicker than the stock bike....
I just got a custom map on it....OMG......it is the same, but MORE....
do yourself a favor, quit trying to re-invent the wheel on the 06-07 14....just take the secondary flies out, drop a tooth in the front, get a PCIII, and get a custom map done........
