An Unfortunate Question

Okay, I am just going to put it out there. I am a big guy who likes big womenz, and I am worrying about the carrying capacity of my 14. Basically... I don't wanna bust the thing. I noted a little fluid under my bike by the kick stand, and a friend of mine said that it might be where tubes meet and there may be some overflow in the beginning while I am breaking my bike in and not to worry. The fluid does not have a scent that I can detect, and since I am in Florida, by the time I get out of a store or wherever I am, the fluid is basically dry. I am afraid that by putting so much weight on the poor bastard that it is shaking hoses loose or damaging it in some way despite the fact it rides like a dream. Do I need to worry?

Sincerely,

Fatty in the Palm Beaches

If it dries up it's probably condensation from the exhaust system. No worries.

Never hurt her' the bike that is LOL. Its always a good idea to but a 2nd fan on it for traffic in summer. I hard wire them so i can use it only when i want the 2nd fan on. I also wire it to the starter solenoid so its drawing off the heaviest circut and i dont have to run a relay ! The fluid your seeing is probaly just condensation........Bill

There are two rubber hoses sticking down on the left side near the side stand. One hose has a bottle with a stopper - that's the drain tube from your airbox. It will collect any water or even motor oil that gets up in that area. The other tube also has a bottle(I think) but the tube has no stopper - that is you fuel breather. If you are keeping the tank real full and exposed to rapid air temp increase(like parking in the sun, maybe or a hot garage after a fill up or it could be heatsink after shutting down and coolent stops circulating) the fuel expands to the point that it drains out of the breather. From smelling the drainage from my breather, I would say it often has a lot of water. First time I noticed it, the liquid barely smelled of gas at all. I would find this hose and place some kind of a recepticle under it to determine if that is all the leakage is.

I have the rear end lifted 8" with a stand at present and I am noticing gas/water emissions on warmer days of winter storage. Also see ice crystals forming at the tip of the breather. I filled the tank to above the splashgaurd while it was up on the stand so it is really full.

I really doubt you are breaking your bike. This bike was made for you. Don't recall the exact weight capacity but it was 4 hundred some lbs. You are going to have to find a skinnyazz passenger though.

OH- if you smoke, there's another reason to quit. LOL No sh!t though, I'd be really careful about lighting up or dropping a butt by your bike right now.

Rook, one of the hoses is the drain from around the filler neck on the tank. The tank vents at the filler cap lock set.

I just removed the tank, and it seemed to me the hose I am talking about went to a nipple on the left hand side of the back of the tank (I have an '08). Perhaps the vent pipe travels inside the tank from that nipple up to the fillerneck area. That would explain why it is emitting gas. When the temperature rises, the gas expands and rises to the vent pipe inside the tank. I'll have another look at it tonight.
