Wheel balancing

Ok, so I have got my wheels Powder Coated and new tires mounted and I just put them on last night. My only complaint is that the wheel weights are kinda ugly. The shop I went to used the stick on silver colored ones, and lots of them. Why are there weights on each side of the wheel like on a car tire? Is that a better type of balancing? The factory weight was in the middle over the lip. I would not want the factory weights back on anyway because the clip leaves a small nick on the center lip. Is there better looking weights I could get and just replace them myself?

They should remove the tire and rotate it - there is a mark for that.

I use blue duct tape over mine. Often times they are taped down for the track and the blue matches my wheel pretty well.

The yelow dots are at the valve stem, thats where they are suppose to be right? And I will look into the innovative thing, but is sounds like they would make some noise rolling around inside of the tire at slower speeds??

You can static balance, I do my own, and always do the wheel first to find out the heavy side. It can be anywhere on the wheel, and mark it with a dry erase marker, then I mount the tire and check the heavy side. Put em opposite, and will take much less weight. I use the stickons usually, and you can color them so they dont stand out so much. Most of the places that you pay to mount and balance wont care enough to turn the tire on the wheel if it takes too many weights, they will just slap them on. Harbor Freight just had a nice ball bearing static balancer on sale for about 39 bux.

DO NOT use beads in bikes if you spin your tires or accellerate very quickly!

I am almost 100% certain anyone who uses them on a zx14 will be very dissapointed...

I have 36x15.5 on 20's mounted on my truck, they are very difficult to balance, and tried beads....

Well everytime I accellerated had they would not find the balance until I stopped and rolled away more gradually....

Just my experience...

The beads for bikes are different that the ones you used in your truck, Lyle.
They are smaller, only about the size of a grain of sand.
I'm not running my bike on the track or anything, but they have never given my any problems with hard accel or decel.

Well crap! I went for a ride to Houston yesterday, and found that the bike shook very bad at umm... high speeds, at about 100+ So I drove to the shop that balanced them and told them what it was doing and asked them to rebalance the front wheel as that was the one that has 2.5oz of lead on it and I was betting it was the one out of balance. So they told me they yould have to charge me! And not only that they told me that "you brobably did not put it togather right" So I said "i put it all back the way i found it" and bit my toung. Well it turns out the wheel was out of balance by 2.5oz, they removed there weights they had just put on the day before and it balanced out perfect. I stayed the night in houston, drove back to angleton today, to find that the big front end shake was gone but then again at higher speeds this time I could feel the rear out of balance... And I could see that they put a nice scratch in my freshly powder coated front wheel!! I give up, there is not a shop in south texas that can change tires and balance my wheels and do it right and not f%$@ something up. Im gonna drive this thing into Go Kawasaki's shop in Angleton TX at full speed, they have always changed my tires in the past but now they wont unless i buy the tires from them, thats how this all started..lol
