Who is running the power race soft rear?

I just added some length and a 180/55 power race soft to my bike. I was wondering what you guys are running for tire pressure. Im at 64" now and a pretty heavy rider. I was going to start with 42psi and start dropping it from there. I see how people are saying these things hook like glue so hopefully I can get away with a lot of psi as to not rob any mph. My track prep is usually pretty good. So what are you guys usually running in these?

thanks

Due to the tire warmers heating the air I only inflate mine to 22-27 PSI depending on weather and which track we're racing (and Michelin saying that the pressure for optimal stick). We're doing a different type of racing, but if this tire is pre-heated to proper temp you won't want that 42 pressure for best stickiness?

Ive always wondered if you had tire warmers would you even need to do a burnout? IF so the warmer would pay for itself in no time. And it would be nice not to have to clean all that friggin rubber off the bike. How much do you notice the warmer helping in initial traction?

I run 17 PSI in my shinko and i bet money you will have to run close to that to get it to hook ..

I will post back and let you guys know what worked for me. This will be my first time on an extended bike, so I really have no idea where to start or what to expect.

thanks for the reply

it'll be interesting to see what you find! I agree with smokin', I strongly suspect you'll find less PSI sticks a lot better than more knowing that tire. Also on hot tracks, I find the power race medium sticks better for me than the power race soft. and that soft is one gummy mo-fo!

I was able to hook with about 38-40 degrees air temps at 17-18 psi. You should be able to put at least 22 in it, I would think.

I got a Dunlop Sportmax gp 211 from a Dunlop rep. He said to run that tire at 18 psi at the drap strip or on a track day (it's a medium compound).

Well I run the super corsa race which is real similar to the power race and I have no troulbe running 32 psi at 63 inches. Start high and work down. I bet you find at least upper 20's will work. And I barley do a burnout. Way better then my shinko ultra soft ever was. some days I would be down to 8 to 10 psi to get that tire to hook

I run the Power Race Soft 180-55 also. At 69" wheelbase, I run anywhere from 10 psi-18 psi depending on track conditions. Here's some video I took last week. I had just run my quickest pass ever of 8.745, so I put my buddy on my bike to see what he could do, and so that I could get some video. First pass he went 8.795, and 2nd pass he went 8.746. Air temps were around 40 degrees, and track temps were around 48-50 degrees, and this tire still hooked like glue. Was getting mid-1.30 60 foots all night.

Man rACeRs, that's a good question about the tire warmers.

Anybody want to chime in on this one? I'm curious myself.

You should e-mail brock davidson and ask him... I know that he runs the same tire on his bikes so I'm sure that he could shed some light on the situation.

the only difference tire warmers make for me is I can go out immediately on lap one at speed rather than waiting for the tires to warm to proper temp

If I had to guess, you'll still have to do a burnout...Your tire will cool off from the time you take the warmer off, till the time you launch the bike..and not only that, a burnout gets rid of all the debris you will pick up rollnig through the staging lanes, such as pebbles, sand, grass, etc.

One good thing is that the Power Race doesn't need nearly the burnout that the Shinko does...so it does last a very long time.

haha..... are you sure that's the correct wording?

I don't know if "last a very long time" and pilot power race soft should be in the same sentence!

Can't vouch for street use...but as far as drag strip only, they last just as long as a Shinko.

rACeRs, don't forget that you will be giving up some gearing with the tall tire. Compared to a Shinko 190, it is about a whole tooth.
