zepher sprocket
I recently purchased a Zepher 1100 sprocket from kawasaki part number13144-1317 Due to the fact of the rubber dampning to eliminate any whirling noise. Dont waste your time or money will not work with a 530 chain.

I just went out to the garage and tried to wrap my new chain around the spocket and it looks like the teeth have the wrong spread to them. The chain will only make it onto a few teeth before its pushed off. Damn, that sprocket wasnt cheap

These folks are making sprockets in FL and can fit all you needs and sell you the right stuff. You may want their hardened flavor for 530 drag racing.

I have that sprocket on my 14. It has been 186 mph at Maxton, and 9.30's at the strip using that sprocket. The Zephyr does use a 530 chain; you can verify that at Sprocket Specialists.
Pics from my install:

Unless you were supplied the wrong part, it should work.

Ditto to the posts above - it WILL work and DOES work on my 08.
I put the dial calipers on both the stock one and this one, and they are identical except for the number of teeth.
You might be running into the same thing that I did at first - there is not much space to work and I thought initially that something was off. Keep working it and it will go together right. If not, as pointed out above, it is not the correct part.
Thanks again to oldkawboy for the original info to confirm for me before I ordered mine.

or you could buy a $16 JT like I did and be 100% satisfied. I honestly don't notice the roaring and I've got stock pipes. maybe the grin just pushes my ears into the sides of my helmet so that it's hard to hear it

its the rubber that pushes it off , i had the same problem. when you put it on and tighten it up turn the tire and watch it. it works fine.

No Racers Right it will not go on and if it does go on its not correct!! Its not the rubber stopping it from going on the teeth do not line up with the chain at all my dealer said that sprocket is for a 525 chain. Kawi will take it back dealer said they are very good about taking parts back no probs from my dealer at all. Hey if some of you guys got it to work thats good. I never had an issue like this changing a sprocket they always wrapped all the way around the chain with no binding. Should have a Vortex mid week will let you know the results.

Let me make this as clear as possible:
THE ZR1100 USES A 530 CHAIN LIKE THE ZX-14.
You can check MANY online sources to verify this. If you have a sprocket that is for a 525 chain, it is not for a ZR1100.
The sprocket for the ZR1100 works perfectly on the ZX-14, as can be seen in my photos above.
As I said, perhaps you have the wrong or a defective part.

Theres always the possibility of it being packaged wrong or a bad batch ive been a auto tech for years and seen that over and over. All im saying is that sprocket is not going on my bike without one hell of a fight and it shouldnt take a fight to loop a chain over a sprocket!Shane is that the same part # you have?

Yes, it is the same part #:
http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.php?FID=27&TID=41368
The oem sprocket is made to very tight tolerances. Make sure everything is perfectly clean and a little WD-40 might help. Otherwise, as you say, it must be a bad or mislabeled part.

Wondering what the actual part # is to the zepher 1100 front sprocket? I also have a 13144-1317 sprocket I was planning on installing, that would really suck if it was wrong and someone gave everyone the wrong part #.

When replacing the front sprocket, I know a new lock washer is a good idea. Is a new nut necessary?

no, you can use the old nut, in fact as long as you tab the washer in a different location, it can be safely reused too!
