Help! PC3 + Alien Head hard start!
I have a minor issue. My 06 zx14 has 22000 miles, PC3, no flies, Brocks Alien Head exhaust, K&N Air filter. When I start my zx14, it idles, and drops to idle RPMs. It sometimes dies within a few minutes.
I am concerned about hearing about you're supposed to install a PC3 on a warmed up bike, due to some sensor. I have not heard this before, so does anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it?
I keep idles at 1025RPS, and hold throttle barely open a hair to warm up for a minute. It can take several starts to get it to idle perfecty. Ive never had this on any othe bikes. Is it due to dropping the catalyzers and decreasing the backpressure?
Maybe im over analyzing it...
Thanks guys! You guys are the best source I have!
PS; Brock- your pipe is wicked! I love it!

Make sure you have a good ground, not to the plastic bottle as the directions say.
What your discribing sounds like the #1 problem with a PCIII install.

Disconnect the PC and connect OEM clips back together...
Let it idle the way you have in the past and see if the problem still occurs...
If not then you know its the PC...

22,000 miles... have you ever changed the spark plugs? Probably doesn't have anything to do with the idling problems, but it might be time to change them lol.

Have fun changing the plugs. I've been riding M/C since 1947 and the ZX14 is the most difficult vehicle that I have ever owned to change the plugs on. It is unbelievable how much has to be removed to finally get into them. Really buried deep and awkward. I just changed mine as part of my usual winter service at 20,000km. I had not been having any problems/bike ran great but did not want to be doing such service work in the middle of the riding season.
The plugs I removed looked to have lots of life in them. The gap had opened up quite a bit though.

The bit about installing a PC3 whent he bike is warmed up has to do with setting the Throttle Position Sensor.
The Wide open position is not 'that' critical but if done poorly your idle position can cause your bike to stall.
Make sure to adjust your TPS with the bike warmed up. If it were a ground problem it would be crappy at all random times, not just idle.
