Changing front sprocket? 16/43 ?'s
So.....
Apparently none of my sockets fit tightly around the countershaft sprocket to change my sprocket?
I tried a 1 1/16", 1 1/8". and 27mm....none fit perfect....
It just dawned on me that I could check the manual....but in the mean time...does anyone know what size or what kind of socket I need to get this sprocket loose?
P.S. I checked the speedohealer site and used the calculator, but what setting do you guys recommend for 16/43 gears on the speedohealer?
Thanks!

Well my 27 was a 12-point....maybe that had something to do with it? Or the fact that it's a well used socket? idk

My sprocket is also on EXTREMELY tight....like so tight I used an impact gun (very carefully) with that 27mm socket and it still wouldn't budge (the socket was slipping, and the sprocket was still rotating even when in gear)

mine was as well hahahha....... i put mine in gear, with a 27mm and a big a$$ craftsman ratchet and a extension also had to put a pipe through rear wheel..... anything really u can stick through wheel to keep it from spinning and broke mine free...... a quick jerk will get it.... also MAKE SURE u have flattened out the washer underneath. it is bent on one side to keep the nut from coming off..... just thiking of everything here.

Don't use the impact while it is in gear. It can damage the transmission.
I had to purchase a pretty stout impact in order to remove mine.

Maybe take a propane torch and lightly heat the nut. Not the shaft. This should soften the loctite and make it a lot easier.

Yeah I was feathering the impact...when I'd start to see it spin I'd stop because I didn't want to damage the transmission.
I had already bent the washer, still couldn't get it out though lol...
I'll try the torch tomorrow...just wanted to make sure it should in fact be a 27mm

actually, I have my healer set at -16.3 (I think) for the 16/43 gearing and it is dead on as verified by gps and radar..

My bike still only has a little over 1k miles on it...so I used the speedohealer calculator and it said use 17.5%
-17.5% was perfect for me, verified by GPS and radar
And not that any of you probably care...but holy cow do I like 16/43 gears MUCH better.
I ended up having to buy 27mm deep impact sockets in order to get the nut off of the countershaft sprocket. The reason I couldn't get it off originally was because the socket wasn't deep enough. (and the local bike shopt old me 28mm when I was in there last week~)

yea i like em better as well, quite a kick in the arse compared to stock. i havent been able to do much highway riding since wether has been to extreme since my swap ( i dont do any riding under 50) sorry..... but if the revs are decent at highway speeds (60mph) then ill probally stick with it if not ill go back to 16/41 as i do some highway riding.

I am running stock gearing right now and I do a lot of highway riding. If I didnt want to go all the way with 16/43 (and its easier for me to change the rear sprocket) what would be the difference in ride, pull, etc with 17/43 (2.52) vs. 16/41 (2.56) since the ratios are so close? Is one more advantageous over the other?

Its supposedly easier on the chain to keep a bigger sprocket up front and do your gearing in back. Personally I've ran smaller sprockets in front on many bikes with no issues or change in chain life. 17/43 is a nice highway gear for the 14, 16/43 is for the power insane
