How to lift front end without a stand?
I am wanting to have my wheels powdercoated over the winter and i have a rear stand and am leary about buying a front because its lowered and might not work, so is there any other alternative? Thanks.

If you can access an overhead beam, or an overhead winch, you can lift it like that. Or I've seen jacking it up (oil pan) and installing jack stands under the forks.

there are front stands that use the bottom of the forks.
Not like the pit bull stands.

But cut a 2x4 to brace it the width of the forks. After the wheel is removed, the forks will want to squeeze closer together.

Your's don't?
Mine do.
The pins on that front stand are a little long though. I shaved off about a quarter inch.

there are two types of front stands, one the pin goes into the neck, the other rests the forks on top.
the one with the pin in the neck may be a better investment, as it allows the entire forks to be taken of. this is required for clip on replaces, fork maintenance, etc.
c'mon man break down and get a front stand!
VORTEX stand on the left bike about a hundred bucks, cheap stand on the right bike about 60 bux. You'll use 'em forever!

Not real sure why you don't want to use a front stand. I use front and rear stands together for tire changes etc., no problem it's stable. I did also made a makeshift hoist in the garage ceiling joist with a couple of rachet tiedowns that works well too.

hmmmm. I really don't want to spend any money on a stand I'll only use 2-3 times a year. I'm going to try this hoist thing.....

To each their own. I will say that I have had my stands for over 4 years now and I've had 3 bikes on them too. I rest my bike on my front and rear stands each time I wash it, each time I oil change, each time I change my rear tire, each time I change my brake pads, each time I change my coolant, each time I change my brake fluid, and after each long ride if I'm not going to ride it for more than 2 days.  Probably hoisted my bikes up on them well over 200 times.

hoisting it is simple too, but as many have said you'd use stands all the time. honestly, it makes messing with the bike so much easier you'll wonder how you ever did without them.

Trust me you will use the stands, I use mine for everything. I have her stored for the winter now and she is up on her two stands. I have a universal rear stand which goes under the swingarm on platforms, and the front one goes in the hole in the tripple tree.

So these stands you guys recomend will work with a 14 that is lowered an 1.25" in the front? I dont need a rear, i already have that, i need a front. Because i know that the local bike shop hates to put front tires on my bike because of how low it is.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, because the forks are still the same length from the ground unless you got a smaller tire. Lowered or not, the bottom of the forks are still the same height from the ground.

if you are worried about room between the front fender and neck, use a front stand that lifts by the forks themselves. those stands are priceless for wheel maintenance too.

get one that picks up by the bottom of the forks and be done with it. lowering the bike has nothing to do with this type of stand. mines lowered and i use for everything as the guys have stated above!

Its quite simple take one center stand - you have one don't you - and one small jack and here you go.

i bought a set of el cheapo front and rear stands for $100. i had to extend the rear stand to work with stretched wb, but i use them all the time. love them, would probly love a nice set even more but these do the job.

if you are at home in your garage
use 2 Ancra tie down straps from the ceiling timbers
use soft straps at the handle bars or the top of the triple tree
swing it...... pull the wheel
the biggest benefit is it cant fall over

I used ratchet straps from the cross beams in my garage to lift my bike off of the rear stand, and then used the stand itsself for leverage on the swingarm while getting it into position lol. Gangsta

I will buy a front stand, i love the rear stand and it has easily paid for itself, i was thinking about the kind of stand that uses the pin and hole above the fender.
