I actually feel bad for you watching you live and ride in the shadow of those "better" than you.
Hopefully one day when you mature and gain some self confidence, you'll believe enough in your OWN abilities to strike out and "do your own thing". Then you'll be able to truely enjoy what riding and modding is all about. Being a fabricator and not a follower is infinitely more enjoyable!

first of all, my zx12r was a full blown custom before i even registered here, and you will not see another zx12r like it. secondly, i was the FIRST member here to have a no flies stock exhaust map - i paid to have it dyno tuned before anyone and there are many members here running MY map. yes, i am 25 and yes i bought my first bike (zx12r) May 1, 2003 - which has been a trial and error project since day one. i do my own work except when it comes down to the motor, and i ride the fucking wheels off of both my bikes.

Chain lube? What did you buy that for? Why not just run the chain as-is until you can draw your own conclusions about wear? I hear it is cheaper and much less clean-up. Sure, some of the idiots here claim it is not good for the chain...but I'm not so sure!

I remember old Mr. Barnslow putting Crisco on his Roto-Tiller chain...and that thing lasted forever!

He also used Crisco exclusively on his Banshee.

Excuse me but wasn't it YOU who said, "i have been a forum spy on zx-12.org and bikeland for several YEARS, and only decided to create accounts recently- because it is time you all saw where the knowledge you shared went. you guys, between both bikeland and zx-12.org, taught me 99% of everything i know." ???? In your own words you gained ALL your "knowledge" HERE. Or perhaps it was that one percent that is responsible?

LOL I TRIED the Crisco thing but had to keep pulling over because I got hungry every time the chain warmed up it smelled like the fried eggs at my local diner.

i am truly flattered that youve spent so much time researching me, and yes i said that. being that the 12r was my first bike and i didnt know shit about it, yes i did LOTS of research, everything that had to do with it and now i know the bike inside and out.
now, if you had just shut the fuck up and done as much research on secondary butterfly removal as youve done reading up on me, you would know that a pc3 is a REQUIREMENT. it is becoming evident that maybe motorcycling is too expensive of a hobby for you - perhaps you should just stick to rescuing abused hamsters. http://www.goldiesplating.com/ferrets/index.htm

nyc, read brock's zx-14 diaries and it will give you some additional insight into the brief but possibly harmful lean spike that would occur when you pull the flies without remapping. it may survive without remapping, but you won't get the full benefit of the fly removal. as for 08s and 09s they probably have less of an issue due to the documented increased richness of the mixture noted in the later years. the later year bikes flies open sooner and the stock map is closer, but still not optimal. to sum it up you may put your bike at risk by pulling the flies and remapping. to me 300 bucks is a small price to pay to make the bike run stronger and keep the motor safe. the folks on this site do know their shit. have a good one.

I agree, a PCIII is the way to go and will definitely benefit the motor AND the power produced. I will probably get one in the future. I only wish we could hear from just ONE individual who actually had an engine or valve failure from the combination of flies out and no PCIII. Seems no one has ever actually experienced a problem. I believe everyone here when they say the data shows a lean spike. It also seems that this spike isn't much to worry about since no one has had a problem because of it.
The fifty or so bikes my Kawi dealer has done without a PCIII have never come back with a problem and my dealer will warranty any problem I may have from doing it to my own bike. I guess time will tell on this one.
Meanwhile I will check out the Brock thread. Thanks for the info and I'll keep everyone updated should I burn a valve or piston.

Still reading the Brock's Diary and it is VERY interesting reading. One cool tidbit I've learned is that:
"Now… here are two final pieces of info to take away with you, if you haven’t had enough of this yet. The real key to this puzzle could be Dynojet and the USB Hub. When I spoke with Dynojet regarding this, they stated that although it is not possible at this time, it is likely that the USB Hub could control the trim on the secondary throttle plates, allowing tuners to build maps with both the drivability offered by the plates being in place, and all the power available by being able to control when they open and how much they open by.

That would be the best of both worlds, and since you have to buy a Power Commander anyways, you may consider waiting for this solution. Be forewarned! Dynojet is a large company and like all large companies, often it takes a while for the wheels to begin turning."

Two other things I noticed right away that aren't true in my experience are:
1) the bike will actually stall and die if subjected to full throttle at low rpm’s in the wrong gear. I do not recommend this modification for street use at all, especially if you like to roll-on with your buddies. A Honda Hawk will outrun your 14 if your engine isn’t running! It could also be dangerous, so don’t do it.
2) But, as life would have it, ALL GOOD is rarely possible. This mod creates very hectic and less controllable low end performance. This is in addition to inconsistent off idle performance which is also sensitive to engine temperature. These idiosyncrasies are not nearly as evident when using the TRE and non-existent in stock form.

I LIKE the way it pulls down low without the flies and my wrist isn't having any problem at all controlling that power. To each his own I guess.

Since you are quoting Brock, how about this one:

"Not so surprisingly, the torque curve is EVEN WORSE when this modification is performed without appropriate mapping to correct for the now GAPING HOLE in the inlet tract formerly filled by a metal plate. Please be sure to look at the UGLY outline of the torque curve on this sheet and the STAYING off scale plateau at the top of this potentially engine-killing A/F Ratio."

or

"You don’t need to be a brain surgeon to realize that an OFF THE CHART lean condition at typical street cruising rpms is a VERY bad situation."

Emphasis his, not mine.

I think the words "potentially engine-killing" are key. You might very well get away with it, but just be aware of the condition....you've been warned (again, ).

Shane

Thanks (again) Shane. LOL.. I PROMISE the day my bike blows up, you'll be the first I contact so you can kick me in the ass and tell me "Told ya so!"
The fact remains that finding someone who actually has had a problem with this mod in real world use (not dyno simulations) is harder than the search for "E.T." lol

Wow -- a great Web fight here @Bikeland and look...for once, I'm not even @the root of it. Keep it up guys. I love the personal attacks; some very good hits here!

NYC, I was also of the opinion that the PCIII is required, but the performance benefits aren't that big and technically, you'd really also need a custom map if you really want to see the max benefit. There are a few of us who would rather not have the PCIII, simply because of the possibility of failure, which some have seen. Do you need to worry about the lean condition? Depending on how you ride, maybe..although it's really only lean for a fraction of a second while passing through that range. Will you notice more power? Doubtful...unless you're riding at 9K + all the time. You'll likely see a 96% gain without the PCIII and then the last 4% gain/smoothing (only up top) with a PC and a good map...so it may not be worth the effort or the expense...my C14 runs just fine without it, but since I had already purchased it, I just left it in.

It's funny how all I asked was how to remove the secondary butterflys, and it turned into all of this.
And here I was afraid that I wouldn't get any responses to my simple question. LOL

Hey Fastest Busa how did you advance your timing 4 degrees?
Is it mechanical or electrical, and is it linear or variable throughout the RPM range?

On my 1650 mile trip I found that my bike gets it's best mileage at 4k +/- 1k. I had a horrible cross wind the entire time "70mph gusts at one point" and running 80 - 90 mph across the desert in late june I averaged 48-52.
