2009 .vs. 2008 on the dyno.
Hi there gang,
I thought I'd post up the dyno figures between my 08 and 09 ZX-14. Not much to be expected, differences were not that drastic. I'm just happy I managed to not lose any HP by going with a Carbon Oval.
2008 - 173.64
2009 - 176.70

D-
Those are pretty close. I would have figured the M10 can would help the HP #'s more.

Yes, Saturday, but not the same month. I'm not fortunate enough to own 2 ZX-14's at the same time. My 08 was totaled by a VW who pulled out in front of me.
The 08 dyno was about 3 months ago. The 09 dyno was yesterday.
The only thing changed was a few degree cooler, but same dyno and same elevation.
What was weird is that the before after on my 08 was 159/173 for a 14hp gain.
The before after on my 09 was 147/176 for a 29 hp gain.
The 147 run stock on my 09 had me worried, big time. But I'm happy with the end results.

Colors only. but I did notice that the 09 had more foam spacing under the rear cowl to keep the end fron touching the top of the rear tail. I have my 08 cowl and the foam spacer is 1/2 as thick.
But so far nothing mechanical that I've seen.

The only way the computer can drop HP's is to fiddle with the mapping or fiddle with the secondaries. None of which appear to be happening due to the 09 showing a smidgeon more HP.

the 08 was leaned out as far as it could go, it ran head on into a W jetta and was totalled. Hence the new 09.

They had problems with the tach wire that day, but peak HP should not have been effected. But I was quaking a bit when I saw that run 3x and no improvement.
I can squeeze a bit more HP (+3) by having it customed mapped. The dyno did show it was running rich from 4200 to 5500 RPM's. Might be worthwhile to do since that's cruising RPM's on long trips ... better gas mileage.

I bet there's a little more to it then just air temp. Even optimum air in July can't compete with conditions we see on average in October. Interesting info though, but I am suprised the 08 was even that close. Were both bikes of similiar milege, chain tension, tire pressure, etc.
Not to mention barometric pressure, lots of variables. Most everything runs better in the spring and the fall and the 08 got its turn in the dog days of summer.

Regardless of whether or not the 08 exists or is a wreck now, had it been leaned out some, it would have matched the #'s the 09 made, easily.
