What kind of Leathers do you wear?

Going to get some gear for xmas but unfortunately coming from a small town I can't just pop into my local bike shop and see what they have. So what are you guys wearing for jackets etc.. what brand is best and does anybody have any input on what I should look at ordering? Also what is your take on textile versus leather for protection in a crash? Thx for the help.

Well I just ordered a new set of the Joe Rocket prostreet leathers, should be here tues. I had AGV leathers that lasted 8 rs and are still useable it was just time for new ones. I've always had good luck with joe rocket jackets so I'm hoping theses new leathers are as good.

I have two low end Joe Rocket 1-peice. I love them even though I have nothing to compare them with except for my ratty old Fieldsheer 2-peice. As for my jackets, it depends on what you are getting into. Drag, Vanson or Bates all day. Street, I own two Alpinestars jackets and they are the best jackets I own for the street compared to my Vanson, my Icon Burner or my Fieldsheer. Plenty of pockets in real places. Removable liner. Very comfortable as well. I never owned any textile. For the summer its my vented Vanson. I just prefer to be sliding in leather if at all possible.

Dainese jacket and Draggin jeans for me, or my Vanson jacket (what I wear 80% of the time). I also have a full suit (2 piece) made by HJC (I believe) but I hardly wear it as the leather is very thick, heavy which is more iddeal for track use I'd say. I also like Alpine and Icon jackets too. The key here is that you'll need a good mix of gear depending on the riding you'll do from time to time; so I plan on adding a touring type suit one day for longer rides (greater than 500 miles round trip). So, most people have a good mix of suits, jackets, gloves, boots, etc that they can mix/match up. Heck, I even have three different helmets too!

If you're just starting out and getting your first items, it pays to get a good helmet, jacket and boots, gloves. Then add gear as money permits

I have an AGV 2 piece suit and gloves for the track and an Aerostich Roadcrafter 2 piece
for the street. The AGV has a good price for entry level leathers the Aerostich costs more
but the size selection is excellent and much more comfortable for long rides than the
leather. Buy what fits you and your wallet the best.

+1 On Dianese. (I've read that it's pronounced Di-a nay-say) I'm not Italian...

I can wear this jacket year around, It has a great, removable liner that actually works well in the colder, less than 40, weather, and is still decent until 95 degrees. Another big plus, it has a pocket on the back for a back brace. Never had to test its protection capabilites, but with elbow and shoulder armor in addtiion to the back brace, I feel like frikin' Ironman.

I have a Vanson leather jacket & a generic textile, also.
Textile is more comfortable/flexible.
But if I fall, I'll take the leather ANYTIME.
And as they say, you dress for the crash....NOT for the ride.
And Vanson has AWESOME quality & thickness of the leather compared to most.
I'm fortunate enough to be only a couple hours away from the factory in Massachusetts so I went there to buy (like a kid in a candy store)!
No bargain but you WILL think so if you ever go down & it saves your hide.
