We use the DSR-100. About $300 for the complete kit. Video quality is not bad; for the price it is a nice kit and includes many accessories and mounting options. Watch this vid in high quality to get an idea...actual quality is better than the youtube version:
It plays MP3's and can even be used as a rearview camera. A pretty fun gadget.

True High Definition is my JVC Everio 40gig hard drive camcorder. Only draw backs are: you have to use a SD card to record to which run about $30 for a 2gig stick (about 30 minutes of highest setting, but 1 hour on the mid setting of 720p resolution which is still "high definition"). And the other drawback is the viewing screen cannot be turned off. Minor annoyance, but still...
The built in hard drive cant record while being bounced around on a bike, it gets too many errors. Camera is very compact and very stout, handles being dropped by my clumsy ass very very well. It also has a 34X optical zoom, with a total of 800X zoom possible.
I used a camera mount from Ebay for $25-30. It mounts at the gas filler perimeter bolts which I dont recommend. The 14's gas tank is too far back from the windshield and gauges so thats what fills most of your view finder. zooming in helps a bit, but a steering stem nut mount would be better.
click on "More From: aZX14Blurr" and check out the other vids if you want to see what the JVCs made nowadays can do. -- just remember, I never used the clean up and color enhance options on the vids, I lost the CD with the apps that they highly recommend you use.

I don't see the 40gb version anyplace, just the 30 and up. Whats the model # of yours?
Oops, mine is the 30gb version. My particular one is the GZ-MG130U. I bought it from Frye's Electronics on sale for $400 +$40 for a spare battery (which I've never needed. The battery life is really good, with a 1 hour charger built into the camcorder- just plug it in).
They are alot cheaper now, though I don't see my specific model listed anywhere. I bought it last December as "my wifes" christmas present. heh heh she has yet to use it...
Just make sure you use the faster transfer rate SD cards so you can record in highest settings. The cheap, old low speed SD card I had at first would only record in the middle quality settings. I play the videos back directly from the camera onto my 37" 1080p LCD TV and the image is crystal clear. After having numerous old style camcorders I've learned to really appreciate the quality of playback in high definition.
PS: the Everio's are all high definition camcorders, though the newest ones that sell for $900+ actually call themselves "High Definition".

Sicks,
NIce video and recommendations. Just got a HD SONY. I'm trying to edit my first video. Do I understand that you never use clean up and color enhancement? I did that and now that I'm editing I'm finding I'm loosing data at the beginning of each cut. Could it have been caused by the clean up? Thanks

Just some local roads is all. Some of those were on Hwy 20, some on Hwy 9, one on my favorite not-to-be-named road. I deleted most of the best vids because of a new law in my state where they can ticket/arrest you for vids that show you blatantly breaking the law. Too bad, got rid of some really great ones with 150+ full lean corners with snow on the ground, etc...
Oh on the editing: it all depends on how you save it. Make sure do all your editing in full format mode, do not let it downsize with JPEG4 or whatever, keep it in the humongous but pure "MOD" file format. Makes it hard to work with (RAM intensive) but worthwhile. When you're done you can downsize it by saving it to a JPEG4 or other file format.

Comments / Feedback appreciated. Quality on Vimeo is "almost" as good as regular.
Where a good place to find stem mounts? I don't want a gas cap mount because my bag covers it. Control mounts suck because as you turn, so does the camera.

that video camera will be glitchy as hell on a bouncing around bike. I was shocked the first time I recorded from a bike- my expensive camera looked like shit and was effectively unusable. Takes awhile to find a good camera for bike use I guess.

No doubt it works then. If thats the same camera that your vid in the car was made from then I'm surprised it wasn't bouncing around/ glitching more on the bike. Make sure it doesn't have a "quality" setting, if it does always set it on "high". I just figured that the videos I make will be with me for the rest of my life and wanted them to be as high quality as possible so as not to bore the grandkids in the future. I don't plan on riding the way that I do now for many more years and wanted some documented evidence of my 'fun years'.
I still regret not filming any of my years in the 80's when I raced and was actually really good. My stupid self just figured that it was good enough just having a memory of it. Wrong! The crazy shit I used to do on a regular basis if it had made it to YouTube I have zero doubt would be some of the most viewed footage ever on that site! Amazing I survived... Had friends wrecking left and right around me, but they all survived, too. Guess guys were just built tougher back then- everyone seems to always get seriously fucked up or dead nowadays.
