loose bolts
today i went for a ride and stopped at a work wear store to check out what they had. just before i walked in the store i got a phone call, anyway i was talking and i happend to look down at the bottom of my forks and i noticed one of the hex bolts was sticking out further than the other. there the bolts on the very bottom of the forks just under the axle there is two on each side anyway both of them were about to fall out. has this happened to anyone else, or are there an other bolts i should keep an eye on i try to look at everything a couple times a week. let me know thanks,

When removing my headers to wrap them, I found that ALL of their bolts were only hand tight. They came off without any tools!
Another problem to watch for are loose fairing bolts. My lower most bolts were all loose and one fell out before I noticed. I pulled them all and reinstalled using blue locktite. http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/detail.asp?catid=10&subid=48&plid=153
Also check the locking nuts on the adjusting screws for rear wheel alignment and chain tension. One was loose there too.

The thing with the pair of pinchbolts at the bottom of the fork leg is that they must be tightened equally, as a pair. If one is tighter than the other it will squeeze the fork in a bit more and the second bolt, previously tightened, will then be left loose.

Loose fork bolts is bad! Torque them with torqur wrench as Bob stated.
I did find the header bolts were just over hand tight, and some were worse than others...
Lower fairing bolts loose is common..... I tighten them good & snug, until the plastic compreses under the bolt head.. no distortion, and no more loose bolts!

The same goes for any type of clamp, such as the triple clamps, where the bolts are in pairs. If you tighten down one bolt too much it will have the effect of loosening the other. As Dubious points out, use a torque wrench and do the job right.

So true! It's scary to imaging a fairing coming apart at tripl digit speeds!
