Shorty Pipes

Finally got busy and put on a pair of shorty resonators that have been gathering dust on my workbench. Took off the passenger pegs while I was at it. Not too loud at idle and low RPM,s but when you hit the throttle it gets pretty loud. Sure am having fun with this bike. It just keeps on getting better and better.

Good job!

I wonder if it affects the mapping at all?

Took a long ride yesterday to try out the shorties. I dont have a Power Commander so I am using the stock factory mapping and O2 sensor. At any steady speed there is no surging so I assume the changes are within the O2 sensors range of adjustment. It did take a little longer to warm up and ran cooler which is a good thing. If you are running a power commander I bet it would affect your mapping.
I am afraid it is a little too loud for me. Out in the country it is fantastic but in the city and my residential neighborhood I have to keep the revs way down to keep it quiet. Above 6,000 RPM it sounds like a Porsche and I could listen to that all day !! I couldnt tell any difference in performance for the better or for the worse. The bike is so powerful that a small change in either direction wouldnt be noticeable. I am working on a quieter exhaust but need to have some welding done on Monday.

Just so you know, there is no 02 sensor on the 14. It uses an "open loop" fuel injection system, and the ECU does not get any feedback on what a/f ratio the engine is exhausting.

So, it doesn't really have a way to compensate when you change an exhaust, unless you add a Power Commander or similar device which allows you to change the injector duty cycle. Even in that case, it remains an open loop system.
